Job Description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Sr. Corporate Development Associate based in Canada.

This is a highly autonomous corporate development role focused on building and advancing a pipeline of high-quality vertical-market software investment opportunities. You will identify and assess prospective acquisitions while developing trusted relationships with founders, owners, and senior executives. Working closely with senior leadership and the M&A execution team, you will help move the strongest opportunities from initial research through evaluation, offers, and closing. The role combines investment judgment, commercial curiosity, relationship-driven sourcing, and strategic analysis. You will also help strengthen sourcing capabilities across the broader team and improve how opportunities are researched and prioritized. The environment is entrepreneurial, collaborative, and designed for professionals who take ownership and are motivated by long-term value creation.

Accountabilities:

    • Proactively identify vertical-market software businesses that align with investment objectives, researching markets, evaluating strategic fit, and prioritizing promising acquisition opportunities.
    • Build and maintain trusted, long-term relationships with founders, business owners, and senior executives by understanding their businesses, objectives, motivations, and potential transaction considerations.
    • Conduct research and analysis to qualify prospective investments and determine which opportunities warrant deeper evaluation.
    • Work closely with senior leadership and the M&A execution team to advance selected opportunities through evaluation, offers, negotiations, and closing.
    • Participate in research, outreach, calls, meetings, and opportunity assessments while sharing practical insights and feedback with colleagues.
    • Lead by example and help strengthen team capabilities in sourcing, prioritization, relationship development, and investment judgment.
    • Use AI-enabled tools thoughtfully to improve market mapping, target research, prospecting, prioritization, and overall workflow efficiency.
    • Maintain strong CRM discipline, ensuring accurate visibility into activity, pipeline development, learnings, and opportunity progress.
    • Contribute to continuous improvements in corporate development processes, sourcing methodologies, and investment practices.
    • Travel within Canada and the United States to meet prospective acquisition targets alongside senior leadership and other team members.
    • Requirements:

      • 5+ years of relevant experience in corporate development, private equity, investment banking, strategic acquisitions, or a closely related field.
      • Demonstrated success in sourcing, qualifying, and advancing acquisition opportunities, with direct experience in origination rather than solely supporting transaction execution.
      • Strong investment judgment and commercial instincts, with the ability to assess strategic fit, market attractiveness, and acquisition potential.
      • Proven ability to build credible, research-driven relationships with founders, owners, and senior executives.
      • Experience with vertical-market software is highly valuable, or a demonstrated ability to quickly understand specialized software businesses, products, markets, and competitive dynamics.
      • Practical fluency with AI-enabled tools and a clear understanding of how AI can responsibly improve research, sourcing, prioritization, and workflow efficiency.
      • Strong intellectual curiosity, initiative, persistence, and sound judgment, combined with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
      • Ability to operate independently, take ownership of priorities, and make thoughtful decisions in a highly autonomous environment.
      • Collaborative mindset with the ability to contribute to and elevate the capabilities of a broader corporate development team.
      • Willingness and ability to travel within Canada and the United States as required.
      • Benefits:

        • Salary range of $100,000–$120,000 USD per year, plus a commission structure.
        • Comprehensive benefits package.
        • Flexible, relaxed work environment designed to support productivity and employee well-being.
        • Opportunities for professional learning, development, and career growth.
        • Opportunity to work in a financially stable organization with a long-term investment strategy.
        • Exposure to a broad range of vertical-market software businesses and acquisition opportunities.
        • High degree of autonomy and the opportunity to make a direct impact on corporate development initiatives.
        • Collaborative and entrepreneurial culture with opportunities to learn from experienced professionals.
        • Opportunity to leverage emerging AI technologies to improve sourcing and investment workflows.
        • Travel opportunities across Canada and the United States.
