A Brief Overview
The Senior Business Intelligence Analyst works directly with leaders and clinical teams within the organization to help provide meaningful analytics and has insight to move forward on specific high-level system quality and operational improvement goals. This analyst will ideally have strong critical thinking skills and the ability to communicate directly with clinical and operational leaders in a way they can understand through effective meetings and presentations. In addition, the candidate will be expected to have or develop understanding of the metrics to provide proactive and independent analyses. The Senior Business Intelligence Analyst is expected to comfortably represent the department within the organization and independently gather requirements from customers at all levels, select the best tool to create complex interactive visualizations, reports, and dashboards to support business decisions, and design, develop and distribute the analysis or visualization. The Senior BI Analyst also coordinates with Subject Matter Experts (SME), the Data and Insights Team and IT to ensure proper governance of the data and appropriate data structures for reporting are in place. This individual will serve as a SME regarding the tools and techniques used for visualization of information and deliver timely, accurate and actionable information to the organization.
What you will do

  • The Sr. BI Analyst is a senior leader within Population Health Analytics, responsible for delivering data and analytics solutions that support value-based care (VBC) strategy and performance.
    This role requires deep expertise in risk adjustment, population health programs, and clinical + claims data integration, including strong working knowledge of Epic data structures and data flow to external analytics platforms (e.g., Arcadia).

    The individual will partner across clinical, operational, managed care, IT, and vendor teams to drive initiatives aligned to contract performance (MSSP, MA), RAF optimization, and cost/utilization management.
    This role operates within the Population Health program and leads execution of initiatives within the function.

    Core Responsibilities
    Population Health & Analytics Leadership
    Serve as a subject matter expert in population health, VBC programs, and risk adjustment (RAF)
    Support initiatives tied to MSSP, Medicare Advantage, and other risk-based contracts
    Translate business needs into analytics solutions that drive quality, cost, and utilization improvement
    Additional Responsibilities: Program Execution & Delivery Leadership

    Initiative Execution
    Translate requirements into structured workplans with clear ownership and timelines
    Identify risks, dependencies, and constraints; drive resolution to maintain progress

    Cross-Functional Coordination
    Coordinate across analytics, IT, clinical, operational, and vendor teams
    Align stakeholders to population health priorities and contract requirements
    Demonstrate understanding of CIN / Clinical Partner dynamics, including provider engagement and performance accountability

    Stakeholder Communication
    Deliver concise, executive-ready updates on progress, risks, and decisions
    Lead working sessions, validation reviews, and governance discussions
    Clearly communicate risk adjustment, attribution, and performance insights

    Data & Delivery Oversight
    Oversee data validation, QA/UAT, and release readiness
    Ensure alignment between business requirements, technical build, and end-user needs

    Strong knowledge of:
    Risk adjustment (CMS-HCC, RAF, suspected conditions workflows)
    Epic data structures (encounters, diagnoses, problem lists, orders)
    End-to-end data flow from EMR → external analytics platforms

    Governance & Continuous Improvement
    Maintain key documentation (plans, decisions, requirements, validation results)
    Ensure deliverables meet governance and audit standards
    Identify opportunities to improve analytics delivery and population health workflows 60%

  • Analytics and Visualization Development
    • Work directly with the customer to understand the business requirements for information needs.
    • Serve as an expert in selection of the most appropriate visualization tool and delivery mechanism for requests. This includes selection of the best graphical or numerical representation of the information and the appropriate level of interactivity and drill down.
    • Design, develop, document, and distribute the selected visualization while working with the customer within the guidelines of the Wellstar Data and Insights framework.
    • Serve as a mentor and resource to BI Analysts and Specialists and provide audits and feedback on their development work.
    • Develop appropriate level of insight to and understanding of the information being analyzed and apply credible qualitative and quantitative methods of analysis considering the type of data being measured insuring statistical validity wherever possible.
    • Deliver end user training to the customer on the use of the tools and method of interpretation of the visualization.10%
  • Collaborate with customers, Data and Insights team and IT on data structure needs, governance and meaning
    • Act as a liaison with the customer to communicate data structure or metric needs for appropriate data model build to the Data and Insights team members and counterparts in IT responsible for data warehouse and data model build.
    • Develop a working knowledge of the lineage, metadata and overall meaning of data being analyzed and lead BI Specialists and BI Analysts in documenting appropriately per Wellstar guidelines.
    • Identify and source where possible, data quality issues impacting analyses and bring issues to leadership and other appropriate individual’s attention.
    • Apply appropriate statistical and mathematical principles to all analyses.
    • Have a working understanding of benchmarking and comparative analysis techniques and interpretation.
    • Develop an excellent understanding of data transformed, managed, and reported specifically by the team (e.g., population health, care management, care coordination, utilization management, community health, Wellstar Clinical Partners etc.) 10%
  • Organizational expert technologically regarding data analytics and visualization
    • Maintain an excellent understanding of relational databases in concept and how to practically work with the data housed therein.
    • Maintain an outstanding understanding of a wide variety of technology tools used by Wellstar to present information (e.g. SQL, SSRS, Advanced MS Excel, MS SharePoint, SAS, and other tools)
    • Serve as a training and informational resource for BI Analysts, Specialist, and others within the organization.
    • Continually look to maintain, grow, and develop knowledge and skills in applicable tools
    • Develop an understanding of current visualization best practice and trends. 10%
  • Other Duties
    • Understand process improvement techniques utilized at Wellstar and practice them with your own work processes. Act as a leader within the BI team on process improvement efforts to improve productivity and quality of output.
    • Participate in departmental and cross-functional teams as needed.
    • Work independently and multi-task effectively on multiple assignments as needed.
    • Communicate effectively and appropriately with all levels of leadership and staff within the organization.

Qualifications
  • Bachelors Information Systems Required and(

  • Minimum 5 years Years of population health, analytics, or healthcare data experience, including implementation delivery Strong expertise in: Value-based care models (MSSP, MA, etc.) Risk adjustment and quality performance Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and translate complex requirements into actionable plans Excellent communication, organization, and stakeholder management skills Required
  • Minimum 6 years working directly with customers from requirements gathering, functional design, development, and delivery of interactive data visualization. Required
  • Minimum 6 years working with complex data sets in a relational database environment with tools such as SQL Server, MS Access, SAS, MS Excel, and other 3rd party visualization tools such as Tableau and Power BI. Required
