The Automation Engineer is responsible for the design, development, programming, integration, and optimization of automated manufacturing systems. This role emphasizes system architecture, controls design, PLC programming, mechanical design, and technical ownership of automation solutions from concept through production support. The Automation Engineer balances design and programming work with hands-on commissioning and troubleshooting on the production floor.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:

ADDITIONAL RESPSONSIBILITIES:
- Design automation systems including controls architecture, I/O structure, and network layout
- Develop, modify, and maintain PLC programs (Keyence preferred)
- Design mechanical automation components using SolidWorks
- Specify and integrate sensors, HMIs, VFDs, motion, and safety devices
- Configure industrial Ethernet networks and IP addressing
- Lead commissioning, testing, and debug activities
- Support production downtime events and root cause analysis
- Maintain PLC standards, backups, and documentation
- Provide technical guidance to Automation Technicians
Requirements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Strong PLC programming and controls design capability
- Proficiency in SolidWorks
- Working knowledge of SCADA systems
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
- Ability to own automation projects end-to-end
- Proficiency in precision measurement techniques, including calipers and micrometers
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field preferred
- Significant PLC programming experience (Keyence preferred)
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Experience supporting automation in production environments
- 10+ years’ experience
