Job Description

The Senior Data Analyst turns large, complex datasets into actionable business insights and automated reporting dashboards. This role collaborates with cross-functional teams to define core KPIs and guide strategic, data-driven decisions through identifying innovative solutions to optimize business performance and drive growth. Additionally, the position requires mentoring junior analysts and maintaining high standards for data quality. Ideal candidates have over five years of experience and advanced skills in SQL, Python, and data visualization tools like Tableau or Power BI.

  1. Apply advanced data mining techniques to analyze large datasets, extract insights, and contribute to the development of business plans.
  2. Lead team problem-solving discussions and exhibit innovative thinking, remaining open to change and feedback.
  3. Effectively communicate analytical methodologies to non-technical audiences and be a champion of change management with stakeholders.
  4. Lead the automation and enhancement of advanced reports and dashboards using tools like Tableau, Power BI, and statistical programming languages (R/Python), ensuring outputs are consistently aligned with business goals and decision-making processes at all levels.
  5. Ensure all analyses, reports, and dashboards adhere to company policies, maintaining data accuracy, integrity, and security while complying with all relevant regulations.
  6. Ensure all data processes, analyses, and outputs meet the highest standards of accuracy, integrity, and security, while consistently complying with company policies, industry standards, and regulations across all projects.
  7. Model behaviors that support the company’s common purpose; ensure guests and team members are supported at the highest level
  8. Ensure all activities are in compliance with rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
  9. Complete other duties as assigned
  10. Mentor junior analysts as needed.
  11. Make effective presentations to internal and external top management officials as requested.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in business analytics, computer science, or statistics required or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum 5 years in (type of work) required or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Advanced proficiency in SQL and Python or R for data manipulation, statistical analysis, and automation.
  • Deep experience and familiarity with cloud data platforms (Databricks preferred), ETL workflows, and large-scale, complex datasets.
  • Mastery of data visualization tools, such as Tableau (preferred) or PowerBI.
  • Expert-level Microsoft Office skills.
  • Ability to coach, mentor and motivate a diverse team; ensure team and individual accountability and performance standards are met
  • Ability to prioritize, multitask and manage multiple projects successfully in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively with different levels of the organization to negotiate, problem solve, complete projects and influence decision making
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills
  • Self-motivated with ability to work both independently and within teams in order to establish and meet deadlines, goals, and objectives
  • Excellent customer service skills

History

Founded by James Haslam II, the first Pilot gas station was opened in Gate City, Virginia, in 1958. After more than four decades of rapid growth, expansion and partnership, Pilot and Marathon Oil Company entered an agreement to form Pilot Travel Centers in 2001.

Over the years, Pilot Travel Centers experienced significant growth and expanded internationally, opening its first travel center in Canada in 2006. In 2007, Pilot bought Marathon Petroleum’s shares and entered a new partnership with CVC Capital Partner in 2008. Two years later, Pilot Travel Centers and Flying J Inc. entered an agreement, officially creating Pilot Flying J on July 1, 2010.
