The role is responsible for supporting and delivering the ICE SQL Server database environment, comprising multiple SQL Server instances that underpin Clinisys applications. Working within the Delivery environment, the role involves planning and delivering customer ‑based SQL Server implementations, ensuring high ‑quality installation processes, clear documentation, and alignment with customer and business requirements. The role works closely with Service Desk, Delivery, and Development teams to resolve SQL Server–related issues and to lead database upgrades, sizing, performance tuning, and server specification activities. Database support is provided in line with product lifecycle processes and roadmap commitments, while maintaining up ‑to ‑date knowledge of SQL Server technologies and best practices. The role also supports Technical Sales, Sales, and Bid teams by providing database sizing, design input, and technical documentation as required.
In addition, the role requires the Operational DBA to identify opportunities where AI technology can add value and to have familiarity with current AI tools e.g. copilot.
Responsibilities:
Follow direction from the Professional Services DBA Team Lead and Technical Services Manager.
Install, configure, and patch SQL Server (including Cumulative Updates).
Implement and maintain SQL Server security standards in line with Clinisys policies.
Design, implement, and maintain backup, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures.
Deliver SQL Server installations and upgrades supporting the ICE platform.
Perform database performance tuning, capacity planning, and optimisation.
Provide impact analysis for database configuration and schema changes.
Proactively monitor database environments and configure alerts to ensure high availability.
Design scalable database and infrastructure solutions to meet business growth.
Support data migrations, patching, and bug‑fix deployments.
Deliver internal SQL Server training to technical teams when required.
Act as a technical consultant during pre‑sales activities, including reviewing customer infrastructure, contributing to solution design, and supporting supplier engagement.
Work in line with Clinisys ISO processes and company policies.

Required Experience & Education
5+ years’ experience as a SQL Server DBA, ideally within a software solutions environment.
Proven experience implementing high‑availability solutions, including:
Windows Failover Cluster Instances
Always On Availability Groups
Database Mirroring
Transaction Log Shipping
Strong experience in:
SQL Server installation and configuration
Performance tuning and optimisation
Large‑scale database design and sizing (physical and virtual)
Experience with database migrations, patching, and production issue resolution.
Degree educated or equivalent professional experience.
Desirable Experience
· Experience working in UK or Ireland healthcare environments
Exposure to Microsoft Azure
Awareness of ITIL and Project Management methodologies
This role requires a working knowledge of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies and the ability to leverage them to improve processes and outcomes. A core understanding of AI concepts is required and must be able to demonstrate the use of AI tools in a professional setting.
Onboarding
As part of our onboarding process, all new employees will be required to attend / travel to the office on their first day of employment. This requirement is essential for onboarding activities, including the identity verification, completion of necessary documentation, receiving your IT equipment, introductions to key team members, and orientation to Clinisys policies and procedures.
