RMC is hiring for a Sr. SQL Database Administrator to support our government customers in Dahlgren, VA. The successful candidate will perform in a fast-paced environment.
- Lead and execute complex database upgrades and migrations, including architecture planning, risk mitigation, validation, and rollback strategies.
- Architect and implement advanced database and instance hardening in compliance with DoD STIGs and security requirements; lead remediation of vulnerabilities and security findings.
- Serve as a key contributor to system accreditation activities (e.g., RMF), including control implementation, documentation, audit support, and continuous monitoring strategies.
- Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis of complex database and application issues, providing scalable and long-term solutions.
- Conduct and oversee in-depth code reviews, advising on database design patterns and evaluating the use of stored procedures, constraints, and triggers to enforce business rules and ensure performance and maintainability.
- Design and lead development of robust, scalable database architectures, schemas, and data models aligned with enterprise standards.
- Drive database performance optimization efforts, including advanced query tuning, indexing strategies, partitioning, and resource optimization across environments.
- Evaluate, recommend, and implement emerging technologies, tools, and process improvements to enhance database performance, security, and operational efficiency.
- Mentor junior database administrators and developers, establishing best practices, standards, and governance for database management and development.
Requirements
- Minimum of ten (10) years DBA experience with Microsoft SQL Server (2008R2, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2019) and Azure SQL Database (PAAS, IAAS, DAAS) in Production, Q/A and Test, and Development environments.
- Experience with T-SQL and PowerShell Scripting – query writing, indexing and DB I/O performance tuning, Stored Procedures, functions and views, customization coding, data models & Entity Relationships Diagrams (ERDs).
- Experience implementing and supporting highly available SQL Server environments, including experience with Failover Cluster and Always-On.
- Experience with SQL Server troubleshooting, performance tuning, issues monitoring and resolution, to include extended events and performance monitoring.
- Experience with Azure Cloud and Database Service, to include Windows and Linux environments.
- Experience with reporting, integration, and/or analysis services.
- Knowledge and experience in high availability and disaster recovery (HADR) principles and practices, to include planning, testing, backup/restore using disk-based backup solutions.
- Strong communication, interpersonal and human relations skills to interact with clients.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to pay meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively on multi-disciplinary teams.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited College or University in MIS or Computer Science related field and Six (6) years’ technical experience.
- In lieu of degree, Ten (10) years of technical experience and MS Azure Database Administrator Associate Certification (DP-300).
Certification Requirements:
- Certification: DoD 8570 IAT Level 2 (Security+ CE or equivalent) or Level 3 (CASP, CISSP, or equivalent).
- Certification: MS Azure Database Administrator Associate Certification (DP-300) is strongly desired. Will be required to obtain and maintain certification within 60 days of employment.
Security Clearance Requirements:
- Security Clearance: An Interim DoD secret security clearance is required to start.
- Applicant must be able to obtain a Top-Secret Clearance. Selected applicant may be subject to a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

* Salary at RMC is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, a candidate's specific combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific requirements. The current salary range for this position will be $115,000 to $150,000 annually.
