Cooperstown Central School (CCS) offers a comprehensive athletic program, competing in Section III's Center State Conference. The school emphasizes sportsmanship, teamwork, and personal growth among its student-athletes.

Key Responsibilities:

Coaching & Athlete Development:

• Assist in planning and conducting daily practices focusing on technique, endurance, and strength training.
• Provide specialized coaching for sprints, distance, hurdles, jumps, throws, or other track and field events based on expertise.
• Teach proper warm-up, stretching, and injury prevention techniques.
• Monitor athlete progress and provide individualized coaching for skill development.
• Help develop competition strategies and prepare athletes for meets.
• Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and personal growth among student-athletes.

Program Support & Administration:

• Assist with meet preparation, including logistics, entries, and travel arrangements.
• Ensure compliance with NYSPHSAA (New York State Public High School Athletic Association) and school athletic policies.
• Help maintain and inventory equipment such as hurdles, starting blocks, and throwing implements.
• Support recruitment efforts to encourage student participation in track and field.

Communication & Leadership:

• Serve as a positive role model and mentor for student-athletes.
• Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, and school administration.
• Assist in monitoring student-athletes’ academic progress and encourage academic success.

Qualifications:

• Must meet New York State coaching certification requirements, including First Aid, CPR, and Concussion Management training.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous coaching experience at the high school or collegiate level.
• USATF (USA Track & Field) coaching certification or NFHS coaching certification.
• Experience in strength and conditioning programs for athletes.
