Job Title: Varsity Softball Assistant Coach

Position Overview:

Cooperstown Central School is seeking a motivated and knowledgeable Varsity Softball Assistant Coach to support the Head Coach in leading the high school softball program. This position plays a key role in player development, game preparation, and maintaining a positive, competitive team culture that reflects the values of Cooperstown athletics.

Responsibilities:

• Assist the Head Coach with planning and running practices, skill development drills, and game strategies
• Provide individual instruction and mentorship to student-athletes
• Support in-game coaching decisions and player management
• Promote sportsmanship, accountability, and team unity
• Supervise student-athletes during practices, games, and team events
• Help manage team logistics including equipment, communication, and scheduling
• Ensure compliance with NYSPHSAA, Section III, and district athletic policies
• Collaborate with Modified and JV coaches to support program-wide continuity

Qualifications:

• Required:
• Completion or willingness to complete all NYSED coaching certification requirements, including:
• CPR and First Aid Certification
• DASA Training
• Concussion Management Certification
• SAVE Training
• Fingerprint clearance through NYSED
• Preferred:
• Experience coaching softball at the school or club level
• Strong understanding of softball fundamentals, strategies, and player development
• Ability to communicate clearly and positively with players, staff, and families
• Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills
• Commitment to supporting student-athletes’ academic and athletic growth
