  • Monday-Thursday
  • 1st shift is 6:00AM-4:30PM & 2nd shift is 5:00PM-3:30AM
  • Available overtime

THE ROLE

The Position: Operates spotter truck moving trailers to and from the building and the security station for final inspection/ check out to the customer. When not needed to move trailers, the employee performs other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

WHAT YOU’LL DO 

  • Drives spotter truck to move trailers in and out of the building, around the staging areas and to the security station, observing all safety regulations.
  • Performs inspection and miscellaneous service duties such as checking the oil, water, gasoline, and tire pressure daily.
  • Reports any maintenance malfunctions.
  • Keeps equipment and work area clean and orderly.
  • Observes all safety and security procedures.
  • Performs other routine duties as necessary.

Qualifications

YOUR SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS) 

  • Employee must be able to drive safely and effectively on all staging area road and parking surfaces.
  • Employee must be able to operate effectively in reverse backing a trailer into the bay area (inside building) and into stage area parking.
  • Employee must be able to read trailer numbers and other documentation.
  • Employee must be able to perform and remember how to perform multiple tasks from day to day.
  • Employee must be able to perform the physical requirements listed in that section of this job description.
  • Employee must look for potential cost savings in the work process, help keep scrap and waste to a minimum and be efficient in use of all supplies.
  • Time standard is dependent on the process being performed, customer specification, volume, and location.
  • The employee must perform the assigned tasks in a way they meet or exceed the required production level.
  • The quantity of units moved will vary with the process being performed, customer specification, volume, and location.
  • Spotter truck driver must ensure trailers are moved and parked properly (allowing enough room) without being damaged.
  • Spotter truck driver must ensure trailers are parked in a safe manner for use by other employees.
  • Must be able to perform work with little supervision.
  • May be asked to assist in the training of new employees.
  • GED or high school diploma is preferred.
  • Truck, jockey, spotter, shag truck training or experience is required.
  • At least one year of yard jockey experience (or equivalent) is preferred.
  • A CDL (commercial driver's license) and at least one year of experience is required if road driving is necessary at the location.
  • Driver’s license is required.

  • Knowledge of the operating functions of the spotter truck including coupling, decoupling, maneuvering, and parking trailers.
  • Ability to move and park trailers indoors, outdoors and on a variety of driving surfaces (asphalt, concrete and gravel roadways, and parking).
  • Ability to read whole numbers and letters to determine the proper trailer to be moved.
  • Aptitude to learn and retain new information.
  • Ability to follow instructions, given either verbally or in writing.
  • Must pass driving test.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:    

  • Office and plant environment. 
  • Keyboarding, lifting, standing, bending, walking.

  • Ability to stand and move about on concrete 8-12 hours a day. Ability to see, walk, bend, reach, grasp, stoop, kneel, twist, crawl, carry, climb (including ladders), work overhead, push and pull.
  • Ability to do heavy lifting (up to 50 pounds) multiple times daily in an 8-to-12-hour shift.
  • Ability to maneuver large parts and assemblies (up to 180 pounds) by pushing, pulling, and flipping them into place.
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness.

  • Employees must wear all mandated PPE which includes at least protection for the eyes, ears, hands, head, body and feet.
