Job Description

The Sports Medicine Clinical Athletic Trainer assists physicians in the Sports Medicine clinic by efficiently rooming patients, taking medical histories, ordering x-rays, fitting braces and casts, and constructing home exercise programs. This role involves in-clinic procedures and requires continuous communication with healthcare team members to deliver high-quality patient care. Additional responsibilities include supporting daily clinical operations for the Sports Medicine department along with occasional community partner engagement and community event coverage.

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday
  • 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (with some variance per business needs)
  • Occasional community outreach services needed

Supports and delivers clinical care provided to pediatric, adolescent, and young adult patients. Collaborates with our physicians in the clinical setting to provide clinical examination and diagnosis, therapeutic intervention, rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions, preventative services, and emergency care. Develops professional relationships with their patients and families to become a valued member of their health care team, delivers a high level of customer service, and continually looks for ways to improve the quality of their clinical services to achieve best outcomes for patients.

Essential Functions:

  • Collaborates with and supports physicians in the delivery of high-quality patient care in a clinical and rehabilitative setting, assisting with performing age-appropriate evaluations and treatments for pediatric adolescent, and adult patients.
  • Completes timely and accurate documentation of injuries, treatments, encounters, and billing of services in the electronic medical record in accordance with NCH policies.
  • Coordinates and communicates with patients, families, physicians, and other healthcare team members to ensure excellent customer service and continuity and quality of care.
  • Develop professional relationships with patients, families, and other medical providers to become a valued healthcare resource to ensure delivery of high-level customer service and education, while continually looking for ways to improve the quality of their patient experience.
  • Maintains knowledge of scientifically based and medically established best practices for pediatric and adolescent sports medicine care and a commitment to remaining up to date in clinical care.
  • Committed to self-directed professional growth and participates in staff development, continuing education, and community engagement activities sponsored by NCH.

Education Requirement:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training or related field, required.
  • Master’s Degree, preferred.

Licensure Requirement:

Licensed as an Athletic Trainer in the State of Ohio, required.

Certifications:

  • Certified with the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer, required.
  • CPR certification, required.

Skills:

Proficient with MS Office and electronic medical records.

Experience:

Three years of athletic training experience, preferred.
