
Why This Role Exists
The Mission
Show up, figure it out, and get the lights back on. That is the job. You will be handed a schedule on Sunday night, and by Monday morning you will be on the road with a Musco van, a parts inventory, and a work order queue. No one will be standing next to you. You will diagnose what is wrong with a piece of Musco lighting equipment on a pole that may be 100 feet in the air, fix it, document it, and move to the next site. When an NFL stadium goes dark on a Wednesday and the game is Sunday, your week changes in thirty minutes. You need to be okay with that. This role rewards self-starters who do not need permission to act and who take quiet pride in work that nobody watches them do.

This person does not need to be checked on. They assess the situation, make decisions, and execute. "We give them a company van. They're gonna have to work very well without supervision. Probably 90% of the time they'll be working independently. That's key."
Adapts When the Week Changes:
Plans are a starting point. A Major League Baseball venue going dark at night overrides a municipal baseball field. The person who thrives here treats that flip as normal, not frustrating.
Comfortable at Height, No Hesitation:
The question is not whether they have done it. The question is whether they mean it when they say yes. A candidate who pauses or qualifies when asked about 200-foot pole climbing is not the candidate.
Clean Record, Insurable:
This is an operational hard stop, not a preference. Multiple tickets, accidents, OWIs, or DUIs may make the candidate uninsurable under Musco's policy. Must be addressed directly on the screening call before any advancement.
Executes the Paperwork, Not Just the Field Work:
The last mile of every job is documentation. Technicians who are strong in the field but weak in the follow-through create problems for the scheduling and warranty systems. This is not optional.
Base salary: $65,000 to $85,000, exempt salaried.
Profit sharing: Company-wide, paid annually in March, based on prior-year profitability. A 60/40 split: 60% to the team member directly, 40% contributed to their 401(k). Eligibility requires employment on December 31 of the calendar year.
Per diem: $72 per day average on a company-issued card. Not a use-it-or-keep-it arrangement. Average only; actual spend varies by location.
All business expenses covered: hotel, fuel, mileage, incidentals during travel weeks.
Company vehicle: Company-equipped van with parts inventory, provided at hire. No personal vehicle required for the role.
All tools provided.
Travel pattern: Primarily Monday through Friday. 200 to 220 days per year on the road. If the technician is close enough to home base in Virginia, they return home at night. Extended regional or national travel will cycle, and company makes an effort to balance heavy travel weeks with local weeks.
401(k): Eligible day one. 100% vested day one. Company matches 100% of first 4% of contributions. Team members may contribute up to 75% of compensation to Traditional and/or Roth 401(k).
Medical insurance: Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield. Available first of the month following hire date. Low deductible plan ($500 single / $1,000 family) or high deductible plan ($3,400 single / $6,800 family). Alliance Select PPO (nationwide). Low deductible PPO: $105.30/month individual, $369.21/month family.
Dental: Delta Dental. First of month following hire. Individual: $14.05/month. Family: $56.18/month.
Vision: Voluntary, team member-paid premium. Available at hire.
Life insurance: Group term, Company pays 100% of premium for team member, spouse, and dependents. Benefit equals one times total compensation. First of month following start date.
Short-term disability: Company pays 100% of premium. Begins day 8 of disability. Covers up to 26 weeks. 60% base salary protection. Eligible day one.
Long-term disability: Company pays 100% of premium. Covers disability after 26 weeks. Provides 60% of total compensation. First of month following start date.
Business travel protection insurance: Provided to all team members for domestic and international travel.
Parental leave: Child-bearing: 8 weeks at 100%. Non-child-bearing full-time: 80 hours at 100%.
PTO: 120 hours per year at years 0 to 4. 168 hours at 5 to 9. Increases with tenure. Team members begin with 24 hours available on hire date.
Paid holidays: 9 days (New Year's Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, day after Thanksgiving, Christmas two days).
Additional at no cost: Annual wellness screenings, fitness reimbursement, adoption expense reimbursement, employee assistance program, recreational activities, event ticket opportunities.
Education reimbursement: 90% of eligible expenses after 6 months of tenure.
