The Sports Coach instructs and coaches participants in youth sports programs, fostering skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship in a supportive and engaging environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Program Delivery:
• Facilitate sports program activities according to the plan and schedule, ensuring engaging and skill-focused sessions.
• Provide effective communication with participants, parents, and staff to foster a collaborative program atmosphere.
2. Logistics and Resource Management:
• Set up and break down program areas, maintaining and controlling supplies and equipment to ensure readiness and organization.
• Follow department protocol to maintain cleanliness and organization in program areas.
3. Safety and Compliance:
• Ensure a safe environment for participants by enforcing safety rules, responding to accidents, and following protocols to address injuries.
• Respond professionally to problems and complaints, identifying solutions to resolve issues promptly.
• Actively ensure the safety and well-being of all children by adhering to YMCA Buffalo Niagara’s Youth Protection Policies. Recognize, respond to, and immediately report any suspected abuse, policy violations, or safety concerns.
4. Professional Development:
• Attend and participate in staff meetings and training sessions as required.
5. Additional Responsibilities:
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Must be at least 16 years of age.
2. Strong communication skills and the ability to effectively interact with youth and adults.
3. Knowledge and experience in appropriate sports skills, with a focus on youth development.
4. Proven ability to lead and supervise youth groups, fostering teamwork and inclusivity.
5. Dependable, responsive, and adaptable to dynamic program needs.

GENERAL WORK SCHEDULE:
Part-time with flexibility to work a variable schedule and availability to work weekends is required.

Founded in 1852, YMCA Buffalo Niagara is the second-oldest YMCA in the United States and one of the oldest institutions in Western New York.

As a non-profit organization, the Y helps bring much needed services to the Western New York community.
