About the Role

Kowanyama Aboriginal Shire Council is seeking motivated and energetic individuals to join our Community Services team as Sport & Recreation Support Workers.

This hands-on role supports the delivery of sport and recreation activities that promote healthy, active lifestyles for the Kowanyama community. You’ll assist with setting up and running programs, engaging participants, maintaining facilities, and ensuring recreation spaces are clean, safe, and welcoming for everyone.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning, setting up, supervising, and packing down community sport and recreation activities.
  • Support coaches, volunteers, and the Sport & Recreation Manager in program delivery.
  • Encourage participation and promote health, fitness, and wellbeing across the community.
  • Maintain cleanliness and presentation of indoor and outdoor facilities.
  • Ensure all equipment is cleaned, stored safely, and ready for use.
  • Report any maintenance or safety issues promptly.

  • The ability to work well in a team and build positive relationships with people of all ages.
  • Good communication skills and a respectful approach when engaging with community members.
  • The physical ability to take part in active, hands-on work.
  • An interest in developing your skills and learning new things on the job.

Mandatory Requirements

  • Current Blue Card (Working with Children Check).
  • Police Clearance.
  • Current manual ‘C’ Class Driver’s Licence (desirable, not essential).
