Spiritual Counselor

Location: Milwaukee, WI

Pay: $20.00 per hour

Job Type: Full-time- 40hrs/weekly

Schedule: Flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, overnight shifts, and holidays as needed

About the Role

At The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center, your work directly supports individuals on their recovery journey. As a Spiritual Counselor, you will provide spiritual counseling, support, guidance, and rehabilitation planning to beneficiaries experiencing challenges such as substance use disorders, gambling addiction, chronic homelessness, and other life disruptions. You will help individuals develop meaningful goals, track their progress, and encourage personal growth while supporting The Salvation Army's mission

What You’ll Do

  • Conduct spiritual assessments, interviews, and intakes for newly admitted beneficiaries
  • Provide individual and group spiritual counseling sessions
  • Lead educational classes, interactive journaling groups, and recovery-focused activities
  • Develop and manage individualized rehabilitation plans
  • Monitor beneficiary progress and adjust rehabilitation goals as needed
  • Maintain accurate case notes, service records, and rehabilitation documentation in electronic systems
  • Update beneficiary progress using self-sufficiency and program assessment tools
  • Coordinate referrals and connect beneficiaries with additional resources when appropriate
  • Follow up on work therapy participation and address challenges impacting progress
  • Assess spiritual needs and provide guidance consistent with The Salvation Army mission
  • Assist with special projects, programs, and services assigned by leadership
  • Participate in trainings, workshops, and professional development opportunities
  • Prepare and maintain statistical and program-related documentation
  • Support a positive, recovery-focused environment for beneficiaries

Qualifications

Required

  • Strong desire to help individuals overcome personal challenges and achieve recovery goals
  • Ability to build rapport and maintain professional boundaries with beneficiaries
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to facilitate group discussions and educational classes
  • Ability to maintain confidential records and accurate documentation
  • Intermediate computer skills, including word processing and electronic data entry
  • Ability to identify problems, evaluate situations, and develop appropriate solutions
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Support for The Salvation Army's mission and values
  • High school diploma or equivalent

Preferred

  • Previous counseling, case management, social services, ministry, recovery support, or human services experience
  • Experience working with individuals affected by addiction, homelessness, or other life challenges
  • Experience facilitating groups, classes, or educational programming
  • Familiarity with electronic case management or data management systems
  • Experience in faith-based, nonprofit, or recovery-focused environments
