The Opportunity

Reporting to the Director of Care, the Spiritual Care Coordinator is responsible for providing psychosocial and spiritual support, leadership, consultation, expertise in all matters related to spiritual health care in the context of health and care delivered at assigned site(s). In a direct service delivery model, the Spiritual Care Coordinator responds to the spiritual health needs identified by long term care residents, their families, members of the interdisciplinary team including staff and volunteers through a process of spiritual assessment and care.
Reflecting a holistic, compassionate approach to care, the Spiritual Care Coordinator advances an evidence based spiritual health care approach within the assigned site(s)/programs inclusive of residents/families, staff, physicians, and volunteers which is integrated into inter-professional collaborative team practice. Spiritual Care Professional Practice is to be delivered in alignment with Carewest Frame of Reference, Philosophy of Care, policies and frameworks.
Given the variety of spiritual, religious, cultural, and philosophical beliefs that co-exist within site(s), the Spiritual Care Coordinator encourages respect for individual client beliefs within the care team, and also facilitates and supports the involvement of religious community visitors (RCVS). The Spiritual Care Coordinator is skilled in providing existential, spiritual, and religious resident care across beliefs, cultural perspectives, and practices.
Qualifications & Experience: 
- Certified Spiritual Care Practitioner (CASC) or actively working towards (within 3 years) certification as a Spiritual Care Practitioner, offered through the Canadian Association of Spiritual Care.
- Degree in related theology, social work, or counselling.
- Training and experience in spiritual direction, counselling, and education.
- Two advanced units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE).
- Member or Associate Member in Good Standing with the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care.
- Reliable vehicle and driver’s license required.
- Two (2) – five (5) years spiritual leadership and administrative experience.  - Knowledge of and skills to address the needs of people encountering crisis, disability, loss, bereavement and end of life care.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate respectfully and work effectively with various spiritual, religious, cultural groups, and all levels of staff.
- Working knowledge of MS Office, Outlook, and Internet preferred.
- Two years of relevant spiritual health care experience as a certified spiritual care practitioner preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership, communication skills and a professional demeanor are required.
