This role is at Spirit AeroSystems, Inc. a wholly owned subsidiary of The Boeing Company, supporting Spirit’s Commercial Business Units (“Spirit Commercial”). Spirit Commercial designs and builds commercial aerostructures, including for Boeing Commercial Airplanes, one of Boeing’s three business units and the premier manufacturer of commercial jetliners for decades. Position Responsibilities:

Liaison Engineering. Spirit Defense Liaison Engineering interns support aerospace production and program execution by working directly with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and other cross-functional teams to resolve technical issues affecting defense and space products. Interns help evaluate nonconforming conditions, interpret engineering requirements, develop technically sound dispositions, and support timely solutions that maintain product safety, quality, and mission requirements.

Potential internship assignments may include:

  • Investigate production nonconformances and support engineering dispositions or repair solutions
  • Interpret engineering drawings, models, specifications, and design requirements to resolve shop-floor technical issues
  • Coordinate with design, structural analysis, manufacturing, quality, and program teams on production solutions
  • Support root-cause investigations, corrective actions, technical documentation, and continuous improvement activities

These positions are expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite in Wichita, KS.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Currently enrolled in a four-year undergraduate or graduate ABET-accredited engineering program
  • Ability to work full-time during Summer 2027

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Passion for the aerospace and defense industry with an interest in building a career with Spirit Defense
  • Academic excellence (GPA of 3.0 or higher)
  • Previous related internship or work experience and/or involvement with student or civic organizations
  • Majoring in one of the following: Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering, Civil/Structural Engineering, or other related engineering fields
  • The ability to relocate and work onsite

Summary pay range: Min: $20.55/hr - Max: $34.42/hr
