Job Duties

The Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind is seeking a Speech Language Pathologist to provide speech and communication services to students with sensory impairments.

The Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind (VSDB) is located in the historic, vibrant city of Staunton, Virginia. VSDB provides superior education for students who are deaf/hard of hearing, blind/vision impaired, deafblind, and deaf or blind with other disabilities.
VSDB offers PreK-12 education with both residential and day student options.

This is a 10-month, faculty position with state benefits, including health insurance, retirement, life insurance, and disability coverage.
The beginning date for this position is the beginning of our next school year in July 2026.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in Speech-Language Pathology

Hold or be eligible for a valid Virginia license issued by the Board of Education with an endorsement in Speech-Language Disorders

Experience in providing services in speech and language to children with sensory, motor and/or cognitive disabilities, or eligibility for Clinical Fellowship

Knowledge of child growth and development, and special needs of children with disabilities, including multiple disabilities

Proficiency in the use of See the Sound Visual Phonics, or willingness to obtain such training within one month of hire

Proficiency level of “Advanced” in American Sign Language as measured by the Sign Language Proficiency Interview or agreement to acquire the specified level within three years

Ability to plan and organize work

Ability to work using a team approach

Ability to follow school policies and procedures

Knowledge of current speech-language pathology techniques and theory

Ability to interact on a physical level with children and to perform repetitive motion to include standing, sitting, reaching, lifting, walking, bending, and climbing

Additional Considerations

Prefer Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech and Hearing Association or licensure with exam by the Virginia Department of Health Professionals, Board of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology
