QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

• Master's Degree in Speech/Language Pathology

Specialized Knowledge, Licenses, etc.:
Performs skilled/professional-level tasks under limited supervision to provide children/students with deficits in articulation, language fluency and voice. Works with teachers and the Special Education Coordinator to enhance each student's self-esteem and increase personal growth. In addition, meets with parents and other staff to enhance learner outcomes. An incumbent in this position will utilize discretion, ingenuity and independent judgement due to the variety of challenges of the job. Since there may be several ways to solve a problem, an incumbent is free to choose the solution.
Specific Training/Skills:
Job skills are required to perform tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Assist in the identification and initial referral of Speech Language Impaired children. Performs Speech Language assessments.
• Participates in comprehensive staffing. Coordinates the information flow from the department to other appropriate service providers.
• Prepares comprehensive Speech Language reports.
• Makes recommendations for intervention. Attends categorical eligibility meetings which involve presentation of evaluation results.
• Consults and instructs school personnel and parents in the therapeutic management of students.
• Writes and implements IEP's.
• Maintains confidential records. Provides documentation of progress and prepares evaluations.
• Documents speech delivery services and prepares Medicaid documentation forms.
• Provides formal/informal in-service to administrators, parents and teachers.
• Travels to the various sites to provide services.
• Attends necessary workshops and continuing education to maintain certification, and license.
• Supervises and directs SLPAs per license requirements.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
