
Cornwall Councils Communication Support Team is a small friendly team working in schools and settings across Cornwall. We comprise Speech and Language Therapists, Speech and Language Therapy Assistants and Advisory Teachers.
We are part of the wider SEND Support Service. We work closely with colleagues to provide advice, training and support on a wide range of general SEND issues such as the Graduated Response and EHC Needs Assessments. We value and support a wide range of continued professional development both within and outside of the county.
Join our Communication Support Team and make a real difference to the lives of deaf children and young people aged 0-25 across Cornwall. Working closely with our Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist and Sensory Support Team, you will deliver speech, language and communication programmes that help children and young people achieve their full potential.
Based in schools, early years settings and family homes across East and Mid Cornwall, you will work under the supervision of the Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to plan and deliver engaging therapy sessions, create high-quality resources, support school staff and families to implement communication strategies and work collaboratively with a range of professionals.
Regular supervision, training and professional development will be provided as required for the post.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting deaf children and young people, has excellent communication skills, and enjoys working as part of a dedicated multidisciplinary team.
You will be responsible for managing your own diary and working independently, with children and young people always at the heart of everything you do.
You will be expected to keep timely and accurate records of any interventions using the Council's IT systems. You will communicate regularly with the Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to update them on a child or young person's progress.
This is a public/customer-facing role, where the statutory English language requirement for public sector workers applies.
This position will be subject to an enhanced criminal record disclosure check.
This role is two days per week. We are happy to talk about flexible working options.
Experience of supporting children and young people with speech, language and communication needs, deafness, and/or other special educational needs. This will include building positive relationships with children, young people and their families.
Ability to travel regularly throughout the county and work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Good organisational skills, with the ability to manage priorities and work effectively across multiple locations.
Confidence in using IT systems and digital tools to support service delivery.
A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently with a wide range of audiences.
