The Building Envelopes Specialist is responsible for providing expert technical support and guidance on all aspects of the building envelope design and construction. Reporting to the Design Engineer Lead, the role works closely with project teams, principal engineers and contractors to ensure that façade and envelope solutions are compliant, efficient, and constructible.

This role combines advanced technical knowledge with practical application, ensuring high standards across projects while supporting the development of junior team members. 

Responsibilities

Technical Expertise

  • Provide specialist advice on building envelope systems including façades, cladding, glazing, roofing, insulation and waterproofing. 
  • Review and validate design proposals, drawings, specifications and mock-ups to ensure compliance with project requirements and standards. 
  • Identify potential design and construction risks, proposing mitigation strategies in collaboration with project teams. 
  • Support projects in troubleshooting on-site technical issues related to the building envelope.

Project Support & Co-ordination

  • Liaise with design teams, contractors and clients to ensure design integrity and constructability. 
  • Assist in the development of technical solutions for complex building envelope challenges. 
  • Contribute to design review meetings, workshops and coordination sessions. 
  • Provide input into material selection, detailing and performance specifications. 

Process & Systems

  • Promote and support the use of BIM and digital tools in the modelling, coordination and delivery of building envelope designs. 
  • Ensure documentation and workflows align with company standards, project requirements and quality assurance protocols. 
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within the Engineering Services team.
  • Proven experience in the design, specification and construction of complex building envelopes. 
  • Technical knowledge of façades, cladding, glazing, roofing and waterproofing systems. 
  • Experience reviewing and validating designs for compliance, constructability and performance. 

Mentorship & Knowledge Sharing

  • Support junior engineers and technical support staff in understanding building envelope systems and project requirements. 
  • Share best practices, lessons learned and technical guidance across the Engineering Services team. 
  • Participate in internal and external training initiatives relating to building envelope technologies and standards. 
  • Excellent problem-solving organisational and prioritisation skills. 
  • Ability to communicate technical information effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. 
  • Proficiency in BIM and digital engineering tools. 

Experience

Essential

  • Experience in providing expert technical support and guidance on all aspects of building envelope design and construction.

Desirable

  • Experience of working within a complex multinational organisation 

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree in Civil, Structural, Architectural or Building Services Engineering or equivalent. 
  • CPD in building envelope technologies, digital design or construction technology. 
  • Advanced proficiency in relevant BIM and design software. 

Desirable

  • Professional engineering or technical accreditation desirable (e.g., MICE, RIBA or equivalent).
