About the Role

A leading distributor of premium interior and exterior surfacing materials is seeking a Specifications Engineer to join its expanding Dubai team. This is a technical, client-facing role that requires strong presentation skills and the ability to advise architects, consultants, and specifiers on material behaviour, performance, design suitability, and installation requirements.

The position involves visiting architect and consultant offices, presenting material samples, explaining technical characteristics, and recommending correct product selections. This includes advising when an 8mm panel is appropriate versus a 10mm panel based on structural performance, aesthetics, and application requirements. Candidates with a background in building materials, estimation, architecture, or project sales will be considered a strong match.

Key Responsibilities

• Visit architects, consultants, designers, and specifiers to present product samples, demonstrate performance characteristics, and explain technical applications.
• Analyse drawings, BOQs, specifications, and tender documents to validate material suitability and prepare accurate technical submissions.
• Recommend material alternatives, thickness variations, and specification adjustments to achieve the desired design, performance, cost, and compliance.
• Prepare specification packages, compliant submittals, mock-ups, test certificates, and all project-related technical documentation.
• Conduct lunch-and-learns, workshop presentations, and hands-on product demonstrations at architect and consultant offices.
• Secure product approvals, defend the specification during value-engineering discussions, and support BOQ protection throughout the tender cycle.
• Provide pre-sales and post-sales technical support to clients, including site inspections to verify installation quality and resolve technical issues.
• Maintain regular communication with procurement, logistics, operations, and sales teams to ensure specification accuracy and project readiness.
• Stay updated on material standards, industry certifications, performance testing, and regional regulatory requirements.

Candidate Requirements

• Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum 2 to 4 years of experience in specification engineering, technical sales, or a client-facing technical role within the building materials sector.
• Strong understanding of surfacing materials, panels, architectural finishes, or construction products.
• Advantageous backgrounds include estimation, architecture, interior design, and project sales.
• Confident communicator with strong presentation and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and material schedules with high accuracy.
• Proficient in MS Office; working knowledge of AutoCAD or Revit is an advantage.
• Based in Dubai or able to relocate; UAE driving licence preferred due to frequent client visits.
