Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking an experienced specification technical Writer (Level 2 or 3) to support our Armament Systems business site in Elk River, MN. This role will report onsite daily.

Seekinga specificationor technical writer to join the Manufacturing LAP (Load-Assembly-Pack) team to support production activities. This role focuses oncreating and maintainingworkinstructionsfor the equipment and processes used in manufacturing. The ideal candidate will havea background in technical writing and experience in manufacturing creatingdetailedwork instructions frominception (parts or models in hand) through electronic approval and release

OurElk River siteconsists of a serene 3,200acres,withover 20 activebuildings, and numerous projects supportingdevelopment,manufacturing and testing forNorthrop Grumman’sDefense Systems Division.This role, as part of ourManufacturingEngineeringteam,works tocontinuously improve, support, and maintainmanufacturing activities of Medium Caliber Ammunition and Warhead productionthrough a variety of self-directed daily tasksand larger team projects. This role supports 1stshift operations on a 4/10schedule.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES(typical dutiesand functions)

• Writes, rewrites and/or editssite leveloperating procedures to maintain compliance with countless regulating bodies.

• Writes, rewrites and/or editsdetailed assembly work instructionsin accordance withthe corporatequality management system (QMS)standards andreleased templatestoclearly and effectivelycommunicate technical specifications and instructions to a wide range of audiences.

• Acquires subjectmatterknowledge by interviewingmanufacturing engineers, technicians, observing performance of production methods,referring toCAD modelsandreviewingpreviously released documentation

• Takes photos and createsillustrations, diagrams, tablesand charts as required to convey assembly instructions.

• Managesreleaseand approval workflowsof work instructionsinto thecorporateProduct Lifecycle Management (PLM) tool(SiemensTeamcenter)

• Holds or facilitates document reviewsto flush out any safety concerns, assembly issues andoperator feedback prior to release.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS(schooling, training, experience)

• US Citizenship

• Valid driver’s license

• Specification Writer2 High school diploma or equivalent & 2+ years of related experience

• Specification Writer3 High school diploma & 4+ years of related experience

• Demonstrated experiencewith

• document writing (reports, work instructions,manuals,etc.)

• working as part of larger team to gather inputs / feedback andmake changes as required.

• Preferred experience:

• in a regulated industry (Defense, Medical, etc.)

• with hazardousmaterialsor environments, specifically energetic and explosivematerials

• in a manufacturing assembly settingusing or creating detailed work instructions.

• familiarity with PLM systems such as Teamcenter for routing and approving documentation.

• WithCAD packages(CREO or SOLIDWORKS) to create exploded diagrams for inclusion within work instructions.

Work Environment

• Exposure to energetic and explosive materials.

• Exposure to heavy equipment(milling, machine, pressing, etc.)

• Mustwear proper PPE(conductive shoes, steel toe shoes, safety glasses)when leaving operations building.

• 4/10Work Shift MondaythruThursday from 6:00am – 4:30pm.

Primary Level Salary Range: $21.66 - $36.00Secondary Level Salary Range: $25.70 - $42.79The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
