Job Description

Specification Engineer

The EFS Specification Engineer plays a key role in defining and documenting the internal design of radio products, with a particular focus on Radio Frequency (RF) systems used in 4G and 5G networks. The role involves analyzing high-level system and hardware requirements and translating them into detailed functional, design, and interface specifications. These specifications guide software, hardware, and system development teams throughout the product development lifecycle.

This position is ideal for individuals with strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams. It also requires familiarity with formal specification processes and tools used in the telecom industry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze high-level system and product requirements to define internal RF component behavior and interactions.
  • Create and maintain clear, consistent, and detailed specifications that support development, integration, and testing activities.
  • Collaborate with architects and cross-functional teams to ensure coherent system-level design.
  • Review and refine feature proposals to ensure feasibility and technical soundness.
  • Lead technical discussions and drive decisions on design-critical aspects.
  • Support implementation teams by clarifying requirements and providing technical guidance throughout the development process.
  • Participate in effort estimation and planning activities related to new features or changes.
  • Ensure traceability and consistency of requirements across various specification layers.
    – Facilitate and participate in requirement elicitation workshops and review sessions.
    – Cooperate with verification teams to ensure that specifications are testable and verifiable.
    – Identify and proactively manage gaps, conflicts, and risks related to system requirements.
    – Maintain alignment of specifications with product roadmap and customer expectations.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Solid understanding of RF systems, radio access technologies (4G/5G), and related signal processing concepts.
  • Experience in writing functional and system-level specifications in a structured and rigorous format.
  • Familiarity with embedded systems, especially those used in telecom-grade hardware and software solutions.
  • Ability to analyze and break down complex engineering problems into clear technical solutions.
  • Strong cooperation and communication skills to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Basic knowledge of software development processes and tools (e.g., JIRA).
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and adapt to changing project requirements.
  • Fluent English skills, both written and verbal, for specification writing and collaboration.
    – Proficiency in DOORS Next Generation (DNG), including searching, editing, and preparing review content.
    – Understanding of internal requirement analysis and specification processes, including their phases and document structures.
    – Experience in writing impact analyses for feature proposals in line with internal process requirements.
    – Ability to define requirements according to engineering standards and company best practices.
    – Strong knowledge of how to write Use Cases, including their structure, scope, and level of detail.
    – Familiarity with modeling techniques and languages (e.g., UML or SysML) and tools such as PlantUML or Enterprise Architect (in our work, we are using PlantUML)
    – Knowledge of system requirement traceability and alignment with verification and test planning.
    – Experience working in Agile or hybrid development environments.
    – Ability to facilitate meetings, mediate between stakeholders, and drive consensus.
    – Strong documentation skills, with focus on clarity, completeness, and technical correctness.

Must-have Knowledge and Experience:

The person writing specifications must understand and be able to work with the following:

  • Internal requirement analysis and specification processes and their phases
  • The structure of internal specification documents, including chapters and subchapters
  • How to conduct impact analysis for feature proposals, and how to document it effectively (e.g., in CFAM Impact Analysis format)
  • How to define requirements in line with company standards and best engineering practices
  • How to write Use Cases, including required elements, level of detail, and formatting guidelines
  • How to use DOORS Next Generation (DNG) or similar requirement management tools – including searching, editing, linking, and preparing materials for review
