NaphCare has an excellent opportunity for a Specialty Pharmacy Technician to join our pharmacy team Corporate Headquarters in Birmingham, AL

NaphCare Rx, is NaphCare's in-house pharmacy dedicated solely to correctional facilities across the country. Connected by our operations management software and EHR, TechCare, NaphCare Rx pharmacists become an integrated, essential part of the clinical team, from electronic medicine orders and secure delivery to pharmacy consultation and review. NaphCare Rx also extends purchasing discounts and cost savings directly to our partners and employees.

The Specialty Pharmacy Technician is responsible for supporting the coordination, processing, and dispensing of high-cost specialty medications in a fast-paced pharmacy environment. This role works collaboratively with pharmacists, correctional facility staff, providers, nurses, and specialty pharmacies to ensure timely access to therapy while maintaining compliance with prior authorization requirements, REMS programs, limited distribution drug requirements, and internal workflows. The technician plays a critical role in maintaining organization, communication, and accuracy throughout the specialty medication dispensing process.

*This is a full-time, on-site position with day shift hours of 9am – 6pm Monday through Friday

Responsibilities

  • Process specialty medication refill requests and coordinate dispensing activities
  • Ensure specialty medications have appropriate prior authorization approval and required documentation prior to dispensing
  • Communicate with facility staff and providers to obtain clinical documentation, lab results, and other required information
  • Coordinate limited distribution medications and REMS program requirements
  • Collaborate with pharmacists, providers, nurses, specialty pharmacies, and manufacturers to support timely patient access to medications
  • Communicate shipment tracking and delivery information to facility staff
  • Maintain accurate documentation related to specialty medication approvals, dispensing, and shipment coordination
  • Maintain organized tracking systems for specialty medication orders and refill schedules
  • Support resolution of medication access barriers, missing documentation, and shipment delays
  • Maintain compliance with pharmacy regulations, internal workflows, and manufacturer requirements
  • Assist with additional operational duties and special projects as assigned

Qualifications

  • Must hold and maintain a current, unrestricted Pharmacy Technician certification issued by the Alabama Board of Pharmacy with a minimum of 1-year experience
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) technician certification is encouraged but not required
  • Prior specialty pharmacy experience strongly preferred
  • Must complete sufficient hours of CEU to maintain technician license and technician certification, if applicable
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with pharmacists, providers, nurses, correctional facility staff, and external specialty pharmacy partners
  • Ensure all pharmaceutical services provided conform to state licensure, accreditation, regulatory agency requirements, and company policies and procedures
  • Demonstrate professionalism by maintaining integrity, accountability, emotional maturity, and a positive work environment
  • Notify critical information to the next level of management that may have a negative impact on client and/or vendor relations or patient care
  • Willingness to assist with departmental duties in other operational areas as needed
  • Willingness to complete special projects assigned by management
  • Must maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and protected health information in accordance with company policies and legal requirements
  • Must pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening

WORKING CONDITIONS, MENTAL AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Ability to work and sit in front of a computer approximately 8 hours per day
  • Light physical work involving lifting bending and carrying up to twenty-five (25) pounds.
  • Talking and listening to communicate effectively with team members.
  • Visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing data/information and viewing a computer terminal
  • Ability to work under pressure
