
The Specialty Pharmacy Care Coordinator – Team Lead acts as an extension of the ambulatory clinic teams and serves in a leadership role to support patient access to high touch, complex medication therapies. This position is based in a specialty pharmacy clinic setting under pharmacist supervision. The Specialty Pharmacy Care Coordinator – Team Lead functions in a multi-skilled environment which requires the application of teamwork, leadership and flexibility. The Pharmacy Care Coordinator Team Lead is a nationally certified pharmacy technician position that will assist the Specialty Pharmacy Clinic Technician Supervisor with various projects and the training and onboarding of new Pharmacy Care Coordinator hires. The Pharmacy Care Coordinator - Team Lead is a subject matter expert in specialty pharmacy medication access, including prescription billing, benefit investigation, prior authorization processes, financial assistance, and coordination of prescription fulfillment. Accountable for supporting specialty pharmacy accreditation standards and 340B compliance. Works in collaboration with insurance companies, nursing, and social workers to obtain appropriate authorization for medications including registration with drug specific manufacturer programs when applicable. Assists with clinic intervention outcomes tracking to monitor value of services. Coordinates patient outreach for new and enrolled patients to ensure continuity of care and optimize patient outcomes.

Acts as a positive role model during change, supporting teams through specialty pharmacy IT enhancements, new operational resources, and changes to day-to-day operations.
Assists the Specialty Pharmacy Clinic Technician Supervisor in the training and onboarding of new Pharmacy Care Coordinator hires. This includes WAMB, Compass Rose, and any platforms utilized by the clinic teams.
Works with the Specialty Pharmacy Clinic Technician Supervisor on several projects assisting in their completion.
Takes a lead role with selected specialty pharmacy vendor projects in coordination with the pharmacy team.
Facilitates presentations at meetings with pharmacy stakeholders, including the monthly specialty pharmacy clinic calls and other leadership meetings as applicable.
Completes benefit investigations to verify patient eligibility for prescribed specialty medications.
Maintains current knowledge of payer formularies and reimbursement.
Supports third party prior authorization process and obtain appropriate overrides to improve speed to therapy for new patients.
Maintains accurate insurance information and monitor for prior authorization renewal needs to avoid gaps in medication therapy.
Triages patient or caregiver clinical questions, medication related concerns, and third-party insurance denials to the pharmacist.
Utilizes Electronic Health Record to maintain communication between departments and ensure accurate documentation of patient care activities.
Serves as the primary point of contact with patients related to specialty medication needs and shows empathy and compassion to patients and caregivers.
Serves as a liaison with physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, pharmacists, nurses, and social workers to provide administrative support, communicate changes in medication related coverage and regulatory mandates.
Facilitates enrollment of patients in patient assistance programs to maximize copay savings and assist with gathering appropriate documentation.
Utilizes technology to organize daily outreach tasks to complete prescription refills, completes specialty pharmacy patient management audits and provides summary reports in Microsoft Teams.
Demonstrates expertise with 340B policies, procedures, and workflows.
Minimum Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent required.
1 year specialty pharmacy experience with Epic Compass Rose Specialty Pharmacy required.
Registration with Kentucky Board of Pharmacy upon hire date.
National Pharmacy Technician Certification required.
Must obtain 340B University or Apexus within 6 months.
Must be Credentialed Compass Rose and WAMB Trainer within 6 months of hire date.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Teams.
Mastery in Epic Willow Ambulatory and Compass Rose specialty pharmacy workflows.
