Based in our Rotterdam office in Rivium, Capelle aan den IJssel, you will join our experienced and highly regarded Financial Lines team. Within the Professional Indemnity portfolio, you will play a senior role in shaping and executing the underwriting strategy for complex risks and accounts.

As a senior member of the underwriting team, you will take ownership of a significant portfolio of Professional Indemnity business, combining deep technical underwriting expertise with strong commercial judgement and market insight. You will be expected to manage complex and strategically important risks, develop and maintain senior broker and client relationships, and contribute to the continued growth and profitability of the portfolio.

Beyond individual underwriting performance, you will act as a technical and market reference point for colleagues and contribute actively to underwriting excellence, portfolio steering, product development and the development of our market proposition.

Key Responsibilities

Underwriting & Portfolio Leadership

• Take senior ownership of a significant Professional Indemnity portfolio, with accountability for achieving sustainable growth, profitability, retention and overall portfolio quality.
• Underwrite complex and high-profile Professional Indemnity risks and portfolios, applying expert technical judgement, commercial acumen and a strong understanding of industry-specific exposures.
• Exercise appropriate underwriting authority and provide senior technical input on complex, large or strategically important opportunities.
• Develop and execute underwriting strategies in line with AIG’s overall Financial Lines strategy, risk appetite and profitability objectives.
• Proactively manage portfolio performance, identifying trends, emerging risks, concentration issues and opportunities to improve portfolio quality and profitability.
• Balance growth, retention and technical underwriting discipline, making informed decisions where risk, reward and market conditions require careful judgement.
• Actively contribute to portfolio planning, forecasting and achievement of financial targets.

Market & Business Development

• Maintain and further develop a strong network of senior broker and client relationships, acting as a trusted and credible underwriting partner in the Professional Indemnity market.
• Identify and pursue strategically attractive new business opportunities while maintaining disciplined underwriting standards.
• Strengthen AIG’s market position through differentiated underwriting propositions, technical expertise and high-quality client and broker engagement.
• Represent AIG in senior broker and client meetings, market events and industry forums.
• Develop and deliver presentations, training and technical sessions for brokers, clients and internal stakeholders.
• Anticipate market developments and changing client needs and translate these into commercially relevant underwriting opportunities.

Technical & Thought Leadership

• Serve as a senior technical reference point for Professional Indemnity underwriting within the team and wider organisation.
• Provide guidance and coaching to less experienced underwriters, supporting the development of underwriting capability and technical excellence across the team.
• Share market intelligence, claims trends, emerging exposures and underwriting insights to strengthen collective decision-making.
• Contribute to the development and refinement of underwriting guidelines, appetite and risk selection standards.
• Support the continuous improvement of underwriting practices, processes and tools.

Product & Proposition Development

• Take a leading role in the development and enhancement of Professional Indemnity products, wordings and underwriting propositions.
• Identify opportunities for innovation based on market developments, client needs, emerging risks and competitive dynamics.
• Contribute to the drafting and review of policy wordings and endorsements, ensuring that propositions remain commercially relevant and technically robust.
• Work closely with relevant internal stakeholders, including Claims, Legal, Actuarial, Distribution and Operations, to develop effective and sustainable solutions.

Governance, Risk & Controls

• Ensure all underwriting decisions are consistent with AIG’s underwriting strategy, risk appetite, authority framework and governance requirements.
• Maintain a strong focus on technical underwriting quality, compliance and disciplined risk selection.
• Provide appropriate challenge and escalation on risks that fall outside established parameters.
• Act as a role model for sound underwriting judgement, governance and professional standards.
• Support portfolio reviews, audits and other governance activities as required.

Operational Excellence

• Ensure efficient and high-quality execution of the underwriting lifecycle, including quotation, negotiation, policy issuance, renewals and account management.
• Work effectively with Servicing and other operational teams to ensure accurate and timely execution and a strong “first time right” culture.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes, productivity and service quality without compromising underwriting discipline.

Profile

We are looking for an established Professional Indemnity insurance professional who combines deep technical expertise with commercial judgement, market credibility and a strong track record of delivering sustainable underwriting results.

You will ideally bring:

• Significant Professional Indemnity underwriting experience, including extensive experience with complex and/or large commercial risks.
• A strong track record of underwriting performance, portfolio management and profitable business development.
• Deep knowledge of the Professional Indemnity market, relevant industries, exposures, policy structures and emerging risks.
• Demonstrable underwriting judgement and the ability to make sound decisions on complex risks within an appropriate risk and governance framework.
• Established relationships with senior brokers, clients and other key market stakeholders.
• Strong commercial awareness and the ability to balance client needs, market dynamics, risk appetite and profitability.
• Experience contributing to product development, underwriting strategy or portfolio initiatives.
• The credibility and communication skills to represent AIG with senior external and internal stakeholders.
• The ability and willingness to coach, challenge and develop less experienced colleagues and contribute to the broader underwriting community.
• Master’s degree in (Applied) Economics, Finance, Law or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
• Fluent Dutch and English, both written and spoken.
• Excellent analytical, negotiation, communication and presentation skills.
• A collaborative, client-oriented and commercially minded approach.
• Strong resilience and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced and evolving market environment.
• High personal integrity and a strong commitment to underwriting discipline, governance and professional standards.
• A target- and results-oriented mindset, with a clear focus on sustainable and profitable growth.
