Job Description

Specialist, Service Provider Functional Skills (ZH - Minley and Worthy Down)

Service Providers at this level are responsible for delivering moderately complex service activities with growing independence and strong technical capability. These activities are essential to contracted services and often linked to regulatory or compliance requirements. The role holder takes ownership of clearly defined processes, ensuring the effective delivery of their service or outputs.

Responsibilities include identifying and resolving recurring operational issues, providing detailed and timely updates to management, and contributing to continuous improvement in standard delivery practices. A strong focus on quality and accuracy is essential, ensuring all work consistently meets—and reflects—the organisation’s standards for learner support and service excellence.

This role aligns with market titles such as Functional Skills Tutor, English and Maths Tutor, Adult Skills Tutor, or Employability Skills Trainer

The Role
This role exists to support apprentices to build the essential Maths and English skills they need to succeed in their apprenticeship and beyond. You’ll wake up motivated by helping learners overcome barriers, grow in confidence, and achieve qualifications that directly support their progression.

In your first six months, your biggest impact will be establishing strong learner engagement, delivering high-quality teaching, and ensuring learners remain on track to complete their Functional Skills successfully.

What makes this opportunity different is the variety of delivery environments, the flexibility of a zero-hours role, and the chance to work across multiple Pearson TQ partnerships within a unique military training context.

Delivery will include evening sessions (18:00–20:00) and some daytime delivery (08:00–17:00), depending on learner and programme needs.

What You’ll Own
Success in this role means learners are engaged, progressing, and achieving their Functional Skills qualifications on time.

Your key priorities will include:

  • Delivering engaging Maths and English Functional Skills teaching at Levels 1 and 2, both onsite and remotely

  • Motivating and supporting a caseload of learners to successfully complete their programmes

  • Conducting Speaking and Listening assessments and completing Awarding Body requirements

You’ll also lead and contribute to:

  • Creating and maintaining high-quality lesson plans, schemes of work, and differentiated learning materials

  • Maintaining accurate learner records, including e-portfolios, learning plans, and session records

  • Providing Functional Skills performance data to support quality assurance and reporting

  • Participating in team meetings, standardisation, and continuous professional development

About You
You’re a learner-focused tutor who brings energy, flexibility, and a commitment to high-quality delivery.

You bring:

  • A relevant teaching qualification (e.g. PTLLS, CTLLS, Cert Ed, PGCE or DTLLS)

  • A minimum Level 2 qualification in English and Mathematics

  • Experience delivering Functional Skills English up to Level 2

  • Experience delivering both face-to-face and remote learning

You’re someone who:

  • Adapts delivery to meet individual learner needs through contextualised and innovative approaches

  • Communicates clearly and builds strong rapport with learners

  • Is flexible, organised, and comfortable working across multiple sites

  • Holds a full, current driving licence and access to a car (mileage allowance payable)

What You’ll Get
This role offers flexibility alongside the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on learner outcomes.

You’ll benefit from:

  • Flexible, zero-hours working arrangements

  • 25 days’ annual leave plus additional service-related leave (pro rata)

  • Aviva auto-enrolment pension scheme

  • Life, private medical, and dental care options, plus free eye tests

  • Employee wellbeing programme and flexible working policies

  • Cycle to Work scheme, volunteering days, and retail & leisure discounts

  • The opportunity to work across a variety of Pearson TQ programmes and locations
