Highlights of theJob

We are hiring a full-time, permanent Specialist, Regulatory Complianceposition working out of Edmonton, AB.

As the Regulatory Compliance Specialist, you are accountable for the compliance monitoring and oversight over EPCOR Transmission’s Reliability Standards Compliance Program, including providing compliance advisory and project management services to various internal stakeholders on regulatory compliance regulations and requirements on Alberta Reliability Standards. You remain up to date on current standards and compliance requirements for all operating facilities and contribute to the due diligence process on business development opportunities. The role also reviews and assesses compliance evidence for completeness and formatting, with consideration for evidence storage and audit preparation. In addition to managing requirements of future mandates, you will contribute to policy initiatives either by leading or by participating as a subject matter expert.

This position reports to and works closely with the Associate Director, Regulatory Affairs.

What You’d Be Responsible For

  • Leading EPCOR Distribution & Transmission Inc. (EDTI) Transmission’s ReliabilityStandards Compliance Program
  • Developing compliance programs for various standards and modifying existingprograms when needed to meet new requirements and working with internalstakeholders for implementation. Providing recommendations on budgeting andresourcing, as required
  • Collaborating with EPCOR Regulatory and supporting subject matter experts to

develop EDTI Transmission’s annual Corporate Compliance Program. Advising onthe Compliance Program to promote and support compliance ownership with EDTITransmission employees

  • Ensuring an understanding of EPCOR’s strategy in EDTI and throughout regulatory

compliance; leading various programs within the broader program

  • Reviewing reliability standards (CIP, COM, FAC, PRC, etc.) rules and requirements to determine applicability to EDTI Transmission’s current fleet or potential sites
  • Determining how revisions and updates to the standards can impact theTransmission Long Term Plan
  • Supporting EPCOR Regulatory’s Dynamic Compliance Risk process in the areas ofCritical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) and non-CIP regulatory requirements,performing gap analysis on risk areas trending upwards and take corrective action tomitigate those trends
  • Collaborating with internal stakeholders to develop an annual communication andtraining plan and highlighting areas of risk. Leading various training opportunities toensure employees are aware of potential non-compliance risks
  • Acting as a subject matter expert to advise Operations on current rules andstandards. Providing guidance to supporting teams (i.e., Engineering, AssetManagement, Project Management, etc.) on how implementation of compliancerequirements on both current and future standards can potentially impact Operations
  • Leading investigations on non-compliance events. This includes conducting rootcause analysis, developing and implementing plans to mitigate future occurrence,and providing recommendations to partner areas on resolving non-complianceevents, as required
  • Developing and implementing risk mitigation strategies to ensure compliancerequirements are met and coaching various internal stakeholders on events,activities, and best practices to ensure compliance, as the need arises
  • Developing and maintaining business unit KPIs for compliance related metrics.Participating in or drive cross-functional teams to design and maintain dashboards tosupport EDTI’s compliance posture. Recommending or implementing changes toevidence storage and transportation for compliance and auditing purposes.

What’s Required to Be Successful

  • Degree in Arts, Business, Science or Engineering
  • Designation as a Professional Engineer would be considered an asset
  • 7-10+ years of work experience in the energy sector
  • 3+ years in a regulatory compliance role
  • Experience performing assurance work (audits/reviews), and business riskassessments
  • Project management experience is considered an asset

As the successful Regulatory Compliance Specialist, you possess a keen understanding of regulatory requirements and use this knowledge in the context that EDTI Transmission operates. You are an effective communicator in both written and verbal formats. You comfortably present information in a meaningful way, while ensuring that information is appropriate to audiences at various levels (e.g. senior or executive management). You are a team player and work well with a variety of stakeholders. You use your Compliance know how to prioritize while managing multiple tasks and projects. Similarly, you have an ability to pivot to new requirements and asks, as required. You take pride in the work you do.
