Job Purpose

To lead, manage and continuously enhance physical security strategies, systems and operations to protect Nedbank’s people, clients, assets, information and facilities. The role has primary accountability for physical security across Nedbank South Africa, with strategic oversight and support for branch and ATM security across Nedbank’s African footprint, ensuring consistent standards, regulatory compliance and best practice.

The role safeguards branches, ATMs and related infrastructure through risk assessment, crime prevention initiatives, security technology governance, service provider management, effective incident response and crime trend analysis, while strengthening physical security capability across regions.

This role will cover the Free State and Northern Cape regions

Job Responsibilities

Strategic Alignment and Business Enablement

  • Align security objectives with the Nedbank Strategy and Business Unit Plans to support the achievement of business goals and values.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to enhance business processes, security methodologies and overall operational efficiency.
  • Enable stakeholder effectiveness by delivering fit-for-purpose security solutions and meaningful risk insights.
  • Enhance the safety of staff, clients and assets through the recommendation and implementation of appropriate, risk-based security measures.
  • Exercise sound financial stewardship by minimising unnecessary expenditure and making prudent decisions in the management of budgets, contracts and technology investments

Physical Security Technology and Infrastructure

  • Manage, maintain and optimise access control, intrusion detection, CCTV and panic alarm technologies to support effective physical security.
  • Ensure continuous system uptime, reliability and alignment with Nedbank’s prescribed security standards and specifications.
  • Review project documentation and annotate required security specifications on floor plans for branch and ATM infrastructure projects.
  • Obtain and validate floor plans, ensuring full compliance with Nedbank physical security policies and standards.
  • Ensure pricing for branch and ATM security installations and upgrades aligns with approved Nedbank pricing structures.
  • Oversee installations, upgrades and maintenance activities to confirm that all security specifications are met.
  • Define installation timelines and actively monitor delivery to ensure projects are completed on schedule.
  • Take timely corrective action where timelines, performance or quality deviate from agreed standards or expectations.

Risk Management, Assessments and Compliance

  • Conduct comprehensive physical security risk assessments, penetration testing and vulnerability analyses across branches, ATMs and related infrastructure.
  • Support business continuity by identifying, monitoring and reducing security threats through the implementation of effective preventive and mitigating controls.
  • Mitigate identified risks and escalate procedural, control or policy gaps to the appropriate governance and oversight functions.
  • Monitor and analyse crime trends, providing timely intelligence insights to internal and external stakeholders to inform decision-making.
  • Track security and intelligence information and ensure appropriate response, escalation and intervention where required.
  • Remain current on emerging and future developments in physical security, risk management and fraud prevention practices.
  • Ensure continuous upskilling and capability development, taking corrective action where competency gaps are identified.

Incident Management and Investigations

  • Support investigations into physical security incidents, including theft, vandalism and security breaches.
  • Ensure thorough root cause analysis, evidence preservation and accurate, complete incident reporting.
  • Contribute to post-incident and post-mortem reviews by providing insights and identifying required corrective actions.
  • Mitigate ongoing and residual risk by implementing corrective actions and embedding sustainable, long-term control measures.

Stakeholder Engagement and Communication

  • Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders and strategic partners.
  • Communicate crime trends, security threats and risk insights clearly and in an actionable manner to support informed decision‑making.
  • Establish trusted partnerships by proactively addressing security concerns and recommending appropriate, risk‑based interventions.
  • Enhance stakeholder business performance through effective security advisory services, actionable insights and strong security governance.

Vendor, Contract and Project Management

  • Ensure all service providers fully understand and comply with Nedbank’s security policies, procedures and operating standards.
  • Manage service level agreements (SLAs), performance metrics and adherence to agreed project timelines for external vendors.
  • Establish clear project timelines and coordinate delivery across internal teams, vendors and other stakeholders.
  • Maintain collaborative working relationships and ensure clear, consistent communication throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Monitor and evaluate vendor work to ensure technical compliance, quality of installations and adherence to Nedbank’s specifications and requirements.

Qualifications

Essential: Diploma in Security Risk Management or Risk Management

Preferred: Degree in Security Management or Risk Management
