We’re hiring a Specialist Project Engineer to lead complex remediation and environmental liability projects across BC, Yukon, and the Northwest Territories. In this role, you’ll oversee regulatory strategy, technical execution, budgets, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, compliant, and cost-effective outcomes for petroleum-impacted sites.

Minimum Requirements:
- 12 years of progressive environmental experience
- Undergraduate degree in Engineering, Applied Science, or equivalent
- Registered (or eligible for registration) as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.)
- Extensive experience managing environmental liabilities at Retail and Wholesale petroleum sites in British Columbia, including site assessment, risk evaluation, remediation strategy development, regulatory closure, and long‑term liability management
- Demonstrated leadership in complex project management, overseeing multidisciplinary consultant and contractor teams, managing scope, schedule, budget, and technical quality across multiple concurrent projects
- Strong regulatory knowledge and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with regulators, municipalities, internal business units, legal teams, contractors, and impacted third parties
- Commitment to safe, reliable, and cost‑effective execution, integrating safety leadership, risk management, and continuous improvement principles into all aspects of environmental project delivery

Responsibilities:
- Lead regulatory engagement across British Columbia, Yukon, and the Northwest Territories, managing all interactions, submissions, permits, and communications with regulators and municipalities
- Oversee environmental projects including monitoring, site assessments, remediation (excavation and in‑situ), and risk assessments by directing consultants and contractors from proposal through execution
- Review and approve technical deliverables including work plans, assessment reports, and remediation reports prepared by third‑party consultants
- Manage project and territory budgets, establishing annual forecasts and providing regular updates on cost performance and estimates
- Set and enforce performance expectations for service providers by cascading company policies and procedures, monitoring compliance (including safety), and implementing corrective actions as required
- Collaborate with Legal and stakeholders to respond to third‑party inquiries, negotiate with impacted parties, and draft correspondence and agreements
- Provide technical leadership and support to internal business units on environmental matters and strategic initiatives
- Support project execution and safety culture by participating in project kick‑offs, guiding environmental components of construction and remediation projects, and conducting safety oversight and audits
Location and other Key Details:
- This position is office-based, with a location at Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Avenue S.W.
- Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
- This is considered a mobile position and travel within your territory will be expected to ensure the safe reliable execution of project work in the field
