Job Description

We're looking for a Payroll Specialist to join our Global Payroll team in Tokyo, supporting our Japan operations while working closely with regional and global stakeholders. Reporting to the Head of Payroll APAC, you will be responsible for the delivery of accurate, compliant, and timely payroll services for our employees in Japan. You will work closely with payroll vendors, HR, Benefits, Finance, and employees to ensure an exceptional payroll experience across the employee lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage employee payroll enquiries and support social insurance, benefits, and retirement payment administration.
• Administer PTO, working time, attendance records, and overtime compliance processes.
• Partner with payroll vendors to deliver accurate payroll processing, validations, and statutory reporting.
• Liaise with government agencies, including labour, tax, and local authorities, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Maintain payroll, employee, and time & attendance data within Workday and related systems.
• Support payroll audits, reporting, forecasting, process improvements, and cross-functional initiatives with HR, Benefits, Finance, and Global teams.

Skills and Experience:

• Over 3 years of experience in the field of payroll and Time and Attendance management in Japan.
• Strong knowledge of tax and employment legislation in Japan
• Experience working in a global matrix organisation.
• Business level of English proficiency. (Must read, write, speak in business level)
• Experience leading or supporting payroll vendor transitions, system implementations, or significant process and system changes is a plus.
• Proficient in understanding payroll accounting
