Job Description

We are seeking a Specialist Learning Support Teacher for our welcoming Perth Campus on a full time, permanent basis, commencing in Term 1, 2027.

The Learning Support Specialist Teacher plays a pivotal role in supporting students with complex learning, behavioural, social, and emotional needs to access the curriculum and participate successfully in the classroom environment. This position includes a full teaching load, its primary focus is on working directly with students, teachers, and families to develop and implement appropriate adjustments, interventions, and support strategies that promote engagement, inclusion, independence, and educational progress. The role also collaborates closely with classroom teachers to facilitate successful integration into learning environments and ensure students can meaningfully participate in all aspects of school life.

The successful applicant will work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and allied health professionals to ensure students can access the curriculum and achieve their learning goals. They will lead the development of inclusive practices, support the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs), and help foster a whole-school approach to supporting diverse learners.

About You

All applicants will need an excellent understanding of the Western Australian Curriculum and Syllabus, be a registered teacher within Western Australia and have relevant teaching and tertiary qualifications.

Experience working with students who have identified and diagnosed high needs along with experience developing and delivering individualised curriculum programs across to meet a student’s functional needs, will be highly desirable.

You will need to be comfortable stepping away from traditional classroom teaching practices, to embrace modern teaching methods and technologies including video conferencing and online resources.

Essential Experience:

  • Expertise in neurodiversity: Demonstrated experience in supporting students with intellectual disability and broader neurodiverse needs.
  • Individualised education planning: Proven ability to develop and implement personalised learning programs, with strong skills in differentiation and adjustment documentation (aligned to NCCD).
  • Collaboration: Capacity to work closely with classroom teachers, families, allied health professionals, and support staff to create a consistent approach.
  • Behaviour and engagement strategies: Familiarity with trauma-informed practice, PBS (Positive Behaviour Support), and approaches like “Kids Do Well If They Can” (Ross Greene).
  • Communication supports: Understanding strategies for supporting expressive/receptive language.
  • Leadership within support: Ability to mentor, coordinate, and upskill colleagues in inclusive practice.
  • Personal care and dignity: Ability to follow student care plans, maintaining confidentiality, and upholding the student’s dignity at all times.
