Job Description

Responsible for assisting with the labor relations function of Human Resources including investigations and fact finding. May assist in mediation and arbitration. Assists the Supervisor Labor Relations as needed

Job Title: Specialist Labor Relations

Reports To: Supervisor Labor Relations

FLSA Designation: Exempt

License Type: Gaming

Salary Range: $65,000 - $75,000

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assists in coaching leaders on implementing action plans to address identified issues
  • Assists in application, interpretation and intent and terms of collective bargaining agreement
  • Assists with the grievance process
  • Investigates and evaluates union complaints to determine viability
  • Works with departments to resolve team member relations issues from intake through research, investigation, tracking, documentation, resolution and follow-up
  • Provides advice and counsel in accordance with labor agreement and policies and procedures to leaders when sought out to assist with sensitive employee situations, including performance management and disciplinary actions, including terminations
  • Assists with training and development programs on all topics related to labor relations
  • Prepares required reports for management and union leadership teams
  • Monitors company or workforce adherence to labor agreement
  • Mediates discussions between the casino and team member including proposing solutions to reconcile differences
  • Ensures compliance with all local, state, and federal employment laws and regulatory guidelines to ensure the uniform and equitable treatment of all team members
  • Conducts team member feedback sessions to monitor workplace satisfaction and to provide feedback to senior management regarding process improvement
  • Conducts exit interviews, gathers data for analysis and reporting
  • Must effectively work in a fast-paced environment
  • Performs all other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Minimum of two (2) years Human Resources experience, preferably in the hospitality or gaming industry
  • Thorough understanding of human resources and labor relations principles, practices and procedures
  • Superior investigative skills and past experience handling complex and sensitive employee relations issues
  • Ability to compile, research and analyze information
  • Experience and knowledge in employment laws and legal compliance requirements
  • Familiar with employee benefits including health insurance, 401(k), disability, FMLA, COBRA, and other work-related benefits
  • Excellent management skills
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with team members, officials, directors and other stakeholders
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills, including knowledge of Google Suites
  • Ability to work flexible shifts and day of the week including holidays
  • Ability to obtain and maintain all necessary licensing and successfully complete the pre-employment process

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed both in an office and on the casino floor in a smoke-free environment with frequent walking, standing and prolonged periods of sitting a desk and working on a computer
  • Regularly required to see, walk, talk and hear; use hands to finger, handle, feel and reach with hands and arms
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at a time
