Job Description
The Specialist I, Integration is a technical role focused on developing, deploying and maintaining HL7-based integration solutions and supporting complex integration projects. This role focuses on foundational data exchange and interoperability concepts, particularly in regulated and industry-specific environments such as healthcare, financial services, or enterprise systems.
Interface Implementation:
- Lead the design and architecture of healthcare integration solutions that align with client requirements and industry best practices.
- Design, develop, and maintain integration solutions using HL7, FHIR, APIs, and other healthcare interoperability standards
- Develop customized integration solutions by extending industry standards to meet specific client requirements.
- Develop advanced transformations, mappings, and custom scripts using JavaScript and related technologies.
- Leverage hands-on knowledge of AWS to support integration deployments where applicable.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex integration and interoperability challenges.
Client-Facing Consultations:
- Engaging clients to understand their requirements and provide technical support at a high level.
- Support interface testing efforts, including unit testing and message validation. Document integration workflows and support ticket resolution.
Oversight and Mentorship:
- Contribute to knowledge sharing and support peer development through collaboration and best practice discussions.
- Providing mentorship and technical leadership to ensure team success.
Compliance and Standards:
- Ensuring integration aligns with standards such as HL7, FHIR, APIs, and other relevant protocols.
- Keeping solutions compliant with industry-specific regulations (e.g., HIPAA in healthcare).
Perform other duties that support the overall objective of the position.
Education Required:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Or, any combination of education and experience which would provide the required qualifications for the position.
Experience Required:
- 5+ years of experience in healthcare integration and interface development.
- Strong experience developing integrations using Mirth Connect (NextGen Connect) or similar integration engines.
- Experience working with HL7 v2/v3, FHIR and RESTful APIsand healthcare interoperability standards.
- Experience with JavaScript, Java, SQL, XML, JSON, and API-based integrations.
- Experience with TCP/IP, socket communications, serial port communications.
- Hands-on experience with AWS is preferred.
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes for containerization, deployment, orchestration, and management of integration applications is preferred.
- Experience developing healthcare integration solutions within Hospital Information Systems.
- Experience managing multiple integration projects simultaneously.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of: Expert knowledge of HL7 message structure (ADT, ORM, ORU, etc.). Familiarity with SQL for data transformations. Understanding of HIPAA compliance and data security basics.
- Skill in: Strong analytical, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to: Manage projects, and collaborate effectively with clients and stakeholders. Convey technical concepts to non-technical audiences. Work in an environment that requires both collaborative and independent efforts as needed in a fast-paced, highly skilled environment.
