Position Title: Specialist General Accounting, Record to Insight

Department: Finance Shared Services – Record to Insight (General Accounting)

Reporting To: Associate Manager - General Accounting

Position Summary

The Specialist General Accounting supports the General Accounting tower by performing day-to-day accounting activities, including transaction recording, journal entry preparation and posting, account analysis, and month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities.

The role is responsible for ensuring that transactions are recorded accurately, completely, and in the appropriate accounting period in accordance with company policies, internal controls, and applicable accounting standards. The position also supports process improvement, automation, and system enhancement initiatives within the General Accounting function.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, validate, and post journal entries for assigned accounting areas in accordance with established processes and approval requirements.
  • Review source data and supporting documentation to determine the appropriate accounting treatment, account coding, and period recognition before recording transactions.
  • Ensure transactions are recorded accurately, completely, and in the correct accounting period based on appropriate supporting documentation and established accounting guidance.
  • Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities and complete assigned accounting deliverables accurately and within established timelines.
  • Analyze transactions, account movements, or unusual entries and coordinate with relevant teams to resolve identified issues or obtain required information.
  • Ensure accounting transactions comply with company policies, internal controls, and applicable accounting standards.
  • Maintain complete and appropriate documentation supporting journal entries and other accounting activities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Accounts Payable, Procurement, Payroll, Treasury, Strategic Finance, and other Finance teams, to ensure timely and accurate recording of transactions.
  • Assist in addressing accounting inquiries and providing supporting information for audit, reporting, and other Finance requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify accounting processes, reduce manual activities, and improve accuracy and efficiency.
  • Support automation initiatives, system enhancements, testing, and implementation activities impacting General Accounting processes.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and contribute ideas that strengthen accounting processes and ways of working.
  • Comfortable using approved AI tools to support accounting analysis, documentation, reporting, process review, and other day-to-day activities.
  • Able to identify manual, repetitive, or time-consuming accounting activities that may be improved through automation or AI-assisted solutions.
  • Able to prepare clear and effective prompts, review AI-generated outputs, and independently validate results before using them in accounting activities.
  • Applies appropriate judgment when using AI and automation tools and understands the importance of protecting confidential and sensitive company information.
  • Willing to learn and adopt new tools and technologies that improve accounting accuracy, efficiency, and productivity..

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy.
  • CPA license (preferred but not required).

Experience:

  • Fresh graduate or with 1 year of relevant accounting experience, preferably in General Accounting, Record to Report/Record to Insight, shared services, or external audit.
  • Working knowledge of accounting principles, journal entry processes, and period-end closing activities.
  • Experience working with an ERP or financial accounting system is preferred.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong foundational accounting knowledge and understanding of debit and credit concepts.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate transaction issues and determine appropriate next steps.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and completeness.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • Experience with Workday Financial Management or similar ERP systems is an advantage.
  • Able to organize work, manage priorities, and meet deadlines, particularly during month-end and quarter-end close.
  • Demonstrates initiative and willingness to take ownership of assigned accounting activities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to work effectively with cross-functional and geographically dispersed teams.
  • Adaptable to changing priorities and workload requirements during peak closing periods.
  • Demonstrates a continuous improvement mindset and willingness to learn new processes, systems, and technologies.
