The Equity Secretariat functions as a centre of expertise and is accountable to advance equity and inclusion commitments, policies, Indigenous reconciliation commitments and diversity plans across the organization.
As part of the Equity Secretariat, you will act as a Diversity and Equity/Inclusion Expert, Leader and Facilitator to assist management in the elimination of systemic barriers by ensuring the Corporate compliance with City of Ottawa policies and provincial and/or federal regulations and legislation. You will develop, implement and evaluate corporate Diversity and Inclusion policies and programs to promote a respectful and inclusive workplace and a workforce that is representative of the City/residents that it serves.
You also: facilitate the planning and implementation of strategic initiatives, community service strategies and activities; act as an internal consultant and resource broker to assist in the development of project concepts, plans and options and lead corporate and departmental projects and initiatives; monitor delivery of coaching (with some delivery) and other capacity-building trainings and initiatives to senior leadership, human resources staff, key stakeholders and all employees to embed diversity and inclusion principles and practices into City activities.
In addition, you: provide research and analysis to identify trends, interpret assessment results and convert findings into action plans for various initiatives; consult and/or facilitate with other services and key community and/or internal stakeholder groups as required on projects; monitor, evaluate, and recommend improvements to existing Diversity and Inclusion plans as well, as prepare reports for management and Council and make recommendations to facilitate strategic decisions to support various projects and transformational strategies and initiatives for the City that relate to Diversity and Inclusion.
Completion of 4 year university degree in Human Resources Management, Social Sciences, Mediation, Conflict Resolution or a related area
Minimum of 5 years of experience directly related to the development and implementation of equity and diversity policies and programs, plus direct experience in client support and delivering diversity training programs
Ontario Human Rights Code, Canadian Human Rights Act and Employment Equity legislation
Strategic planning and management principles and techniques
