Job Description

We are seeking a strategic and analytical Specialist, Corporate Strategy, Mergers & Acquisitions (CSMA) to join our team. In this role, you will support strategic initiatives, evaluate growth opportunities, and contribute to mergers and acquisitions activities that shape the future of our business. If you thrive on solving complex problems and turning insights into impactful decisions, we’d love to hear from you.

JOB OVERVIEW:

The Specialist, Corporate Strategy, Mergers & Acquisitions (CSMA) is a manager-level individual contributor who independently delivers strategic, financial and transaction analysis across insurance and broader financial services. The role supports Group and Business Unit strategy, organic growth, market entry, expansion and exit, portfolio and capital allocation, and M&A. The incumbent develops robust models, valuations and business cases; applies sound judgement to complex commercial and technical issues; and converts analysis into executive and Board-level recommendations with limited supervision. Relevant technical areas include IFRS 17, reinsurance, capital and solvency.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Support the development and assessment of Corporate, Group and Business Unit strategies:
  • Lead market, competitor, customer and profit-pool analysis to identify structural trends, risks and growth opportunities, and assess their implications for Corporate, Group and Business Unit strategy.
  • Evaluate organic growth and market entry, expansion and exit opportunities, considering market attractiveness, competitive position, required capabilities, economics, risks and implementation needs.
  • Assess portfolio and capital allocation choices across the Group, including where to invest, scale, reshape, partner or divest, and the implications for long-term value creation and risk.
  1. Lead the development, and first-level review where required, of integrated financial models, valuations and business cases for organic growth, acquisitions and divestitures, ensuring outputs are auditable and support scenario, sensitivity and capital-impact analysis.
  2. Conduct research and analysis to support the identification and assessment of potential acquisition targets that are consistent with the Group’s strategic direction.
  3. Support the Vice President through M&A processes via development of valuations, transaction structuring, synergy assessment and designing and post-merger integration for major acquisitions, ensuring that estimated post-merger synergies are realised.
  4. Analyse business performance and value drivers across insurance and broader financial services, including, where relevant, IFRS 17, claims, reserves, reinsurance, investment income, capital and solvency.
  5. Prepare concise executive-ready papers; maintain strong model governance and quality assurance; review analytical work where assigned; and perform other related duties as assigned by the Vice President, Corporate Strategy, Mergers & Acquisitions.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, accounting, actuarial science, business or a related quantitative discipline.
  • At least five years of relevant corporate strategy, M&A, transaction advisory, valuation, consulting, actuarial or financial analysis experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently build complex models, valuations and business cases and translate outputs into decision-relevant insights.
  • Insurance or broader financial-services experience is preferred; otherwise, strong technical learning agility is required.
  • Knowledge of IFRS 17, reinsurance, capital or solvency is an asset; otherwise, proven ability to learn and apply complex technical standards is required.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT:

As a regulated entity with obligations under the Know Your Employee guidelines, a Certificate of Character is required.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

The Specialist, Corporate Strategy, Mergers & Acquisitions must be intellectually curious, meticulous, and commercially minded, combining technical depth with practical judgement, independent ownership, constructive challenge and clear communication.
