Job Description

We’re seeking a future team member for the Relationship Associate role to join our Global Payments and Trade team. This role is located in Hong Kong

In this role, you’ll make an impact in the following ways:

  • Build a strong foundation in relationship management by supporting the development and execution of strategic plans for new and existing client portfolios.
  • Learn how to identify opportunities for account growth, revenue retention, and broader client engagement.
  • Gain exposure to consultative client management by helping clients align treasury solutions to their short- and long-term business goals.
  • Develop an understanding of how client relationships are managed across a global financial institution, especially for well-established, locally focused clients.
  • Partner with senior Relationship Managers on larger or more complex relationships to build breadth and depth of industry and client knowledge.
  • Learn how to advocate for clients by helping coordinate issue resolution and supporting high levels of client satisfaction.
  • Build confidence in client-facing conversations by participating in discussions around client strategy, service needs, and business priorities.
  • Gain practical experience presenting firm services and product capabilities that help solve client challenges and support growth.
  • Strengthen problem-solving skills by researching client issues, coordinating with internal partners, and helping drive resolutions.
  • Develop subject matter expertise over time in a specific process, product, or client support area.
  • Build relationship management discipline through frequent client check-ins and regular engagement focused on satisfaction and strategic alignment.
  • Learn how to assess evolving client needs and identify ways to sustain and deepen engagement over time.
  • Gain experience tracking and reporting on relationship strategy, portfolio activity, and client outcomes.
  • Work closely with business development, account management, and client service teams to understand how relationship strategies are executed in practice.
  • Develop a broad view of client activity across the firm and learn how to coordinate across teams to support a seamless client experience.
  • Participate in service reviews, client training, and market update discussions to build commercial awareness and communication skills.
  • Gain exposure to business development by supporting prospecting efforts within similar industries or client segments.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners across marketing, legal, compliance, and other teams to better understand how the firm delivers for clients.
  • Learn key onboarding and risk management processes, including activities such as KYC and BAC, and understand their importance in client relationship management.
  • In some markets, gain exposure to regulatory relationship management and how firms engage with regulators locally.
  • Build industry knowledge by researching client business environments, market trends, and competitor offerings.
  • Broaden understanding of the firm through Commercial Learning Services and support referral opportunities across 1BNY.
  • Learn how relationship teams contribute to organic growth through revenue and asset expansion within an assigned portfolio.
  • Develop commercial acumen by supporting the management of relationship profitability for smaller, less complex clients.
  • Benefit from structured coaching, mentorship, and ongoing feedback from senior team members and managers.
  • Take on meaningful responsibility early in your career while working in a highly collaborative, team-oriented environment.

To be successful in this role, we’re seeking the following:

  • Bachelors degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Advanced/graduate degree preferred.
  • At least 2 years of total work experience preferred.
  • Financial Services experience with financial institutions, i.e. banks and non-banks, preferred as is prior experience in Relationship Management, Client Services or Account Management.
  • Applicable local/regional licenses or certifications as required by the business.
