About the role:

Reporting to the Senior Lead, Automation, the Automation Specialist is responsible for leading process control improvements for water treatment projects and operations that drive value to EVR. The successful candidate will work as part of the Water Quality Processing Department in close collaboration with a high performing team of professionals to safely deliver and maintain a diverse set of technology that is transforming the way EVR operates its water treatment systems. Water Operations’ goal is to operate Reverse Osmosis - High Density Sludge facility (RO-HDS), the active water treatment facility (AWTF), saturated rock fill (SRF) and calcite operations efficiently as part of EVR’s overall commitment to meet the requirements of the Elk Valley Water Quality Plan. The successful candidate will be responsible for support and improving the existing process control system.

In this role you will:

  • Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies
  • Work as a part of a highly collaborative team with a focus on delivering value and promoting sharing of best practices across operations
  • Engage people at all levels in the organization, across all EVR operations, and corporate offices
  • Provide design and implementation support to operations during pre-commissioning and commissioning activities
  • Collaborate closely with internal and external teams to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical problems
  • Define, implement, support, and continuously improve leading edge systems that optimize safety, sustainability, and productivity
  • Monitor for system problems and provide emergency support
  • Develop and maintain documentation of standards and best practices
  • Adhere to departmental change control policies and procedures and develop and maintain documentation of standards and best practices

Requirements:

  • Electrical or Instrumentation Technologist with an Automation focus or related discipline or Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related discipline. Equivalent experience or certification with experience will be considered as well
  • 3 to 5 years working on industrial process control systems, programming PLC and HMI Systems with a background in instrumentation and automation
  • Proficient with Rockwell and Wonderware System Platform experience
  • Ability to design control systems from engineering documents such as P&ID’s, control philosophies, and function diagrams
  • Ability to develop and maintain engineering documentation such as control narratives, cause and effects, alarm and setpoint list, IO drawings, network drawings
  • Ability to lead MOC (management of change) initiatives and implement on the control system
  • Ability to support automation pre-commissioning and commissioning activates
  • Strong understanding of integrated systems; knowledgeable on integrating vendor systems into the main control system
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows desktop and server Operating Systems, virtualization, Active Directory, and computer networking fundamentals
  • Knowledge of industrial control system security concepts and techniques, application source control, electrical systems, and computer network and database fundamentals
  • Strong process documentation and reporting capabilities
  • Strong troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent program and project management skills and strong knowledge of business analysis techniques
  • Strong cross-functional team participant with a collaborative approach to problem solving
  • Detail and action oriented, but also able to think strategically delivering a value added service strategy
  • Honors commitments and delivers timely, high quality results.
  • High potential to keep pace with change and innovation.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent
The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
