Olympic Dam is Australia’s largest world-class underground mining operations, featuring a highly advanced on-site metallurgical processing plant in South Australia. It offers the opportunity to build a long-term career in a dynamic and future-focused environment.

We currently have a vacancy for a Specialist Apprentice Training, reporting to the Supervisor Apprentice Program.

The Challenge Ahead

As Specialist Apprentice Training, you will play a key role in shaping the future trade workforce at Olympic Dam by designing, coordinating and delivering apprentice onboarding and development programs. This role combines hands-on training delivery, program management and stakeholder engagement to ensure apprentices build the capabilities, confidence and practical skills required for successful careers within BHP.

Working closely with Maintenance, Engineering, Training and operational teams, you will support apprentice progression through structured onboarding, learning experiences and ongoing performance monitoring. You will also engage with schools, training providers and community organisations to promote apprenticeship pathways and help attract future talent into the resources industry.

What You’ll Bring to the Role

You are an experienced trade professional who enjoys developing people and creating positive learning experiences. You can build effective relationships across operational teams and external stakeholders and are motivated by helping apprentices achieve their full potential.

Your background may include:

• Trade qualification in a relevant discipline.
• Experience supporting, facilitating or coordinating apprentice, training or capability development programs.
• Knowledge of the South Australian apprenticeship system, vocational education and training frameworks, and industry training standards.
• Experience in training design, development or adult learning methodologies.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence and build trusted relationships.
• Well-developed problem-solving and continuous improvement capabilities.
• Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (or willingness to obtain).
• Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

• Design, coordinate and deliver onboarding programs for first-year apprentices.
• Monitor apprentice development and performance in collaboration with operational leaders, supervisors and field specialists.
• Coordinate apprentice projects that support capability development and practical learning outcomes.
• Support competency development, verification activities and apprentice engagement initiatives.
• Assist with the management of onboarding program budgets, schedules and reporting requirements.
• Develop and maintain onboarding processes, checklists and tools that support successful workforce integration.
• Promote and embed BHP Operating System (BOS) principles within apprentice training and development activities.
• Track and report training metrics to support continuous improvement and program effectiveness.
• Build relationships with schools, community groups, Registered Training Organisations and industry partners to promote apprenticeship opportunities.
• Identify emerging trade capability requirements and help ensure apprenticeship programs remain aligned to future business needs.
• Maintain compliance with relevant training standards, reporting obligations and the Integrated Management System.

Work Location

This role is based at Olympic Dam, South Australia, one of Australia's most significant mining and processing operations. This role will be on a 7/7 days only roster. You will work closely with site-based operational teams, training specialists and external education partners to support apprentice development and workforce capability outcomes.
