Special Waste Account Executive – Athens, TN
Waste Connections is seeking a driven and results-oriented Special Waste Account Executive to join our team in Athens, TN. This is a business-to-business (B2B) sales role focused on selling landfill disposal solutions for special waste streams. We’re looking for a proactive professional who excels at building relationships, navigating regulatory environments, and delivering customized disposal solutions to industrial, commercial, and governmental clients.
Prospect, develop, and close new B2B accounts for special waste disposal, including industrial, environmental, and government-generated waste streams
Promote and sell landfill capabilities by identifying client needs and aligning them with compliant disposal solutions
Conduct in-person visits, site evaluations, and cold calls within the assigned territory
Analyze waste streams to determine proper classification, acceptance criteria, and disposal methods
Prepare and present customized proposals using CRM tools (ARES), including pricing, profiles, and approvals for special waste
Manage the waste approval process, working closely with internal compliance, environmental, and operations teams
Maintain and grow a book of business through strong account management and consistent customer engagement
Track contract terms and proactively pursue renewals and service expansions
Ensure all sales activities adhere to environmental regulations and company policies
Collaborate cross-functionally to resolve customer issues and ensure seamless service delivery

Work with a collaborative team supporting landfill, environmental, and special waste operations

2+ years of outside sales or B2B sales experience preferred
Experience in waste management, environmental services, industrial services, or special waste sales strongly preferred
Knowledge of landfill operations, waste profiling, or environmental regulations is a plus
Strong communication, negotiation, and organizational skills
Self-motivated with the ability to manage a sales territory and meet performance targets
Comfortable with cold calling, technical sales conversations, and solution-based selling
Experience with CRM systems (ARES or similar)
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
