As a Special UnitSurgeryCoordinator,you willbe responsible forall activities related to the successful completion of all scheduled and unscheduled surgeries andprocedures,as well as patient admissions and appointments.You will work in conjunction with physicians and other caregivers to prioritize admissions and appointments and maximizeallocatedspace based on medical needs.This role is essential tomaintainingthe organization of thedepartment,allowing caregivers to continue providing the exceptional care our patients deserve and have come to expect from Cleveland Clinic.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Ensure accuracy of system-wide master patient index through validation and capture of patient demographic data.
Validate patient physician information andensureaccuratecollection.
Validate and capture primary,secondaryand tertiary insurance coverage to ensureaccuratebilling.
Identifypatients in need of financial counseling to ensureappropriate paymentof servicesand services out of insurance plan or requiring referrals.
Triage appointments, based on diagnosis, patientpreferencesand physician specialty.
Coordinate services and provide special instructions as requested by patients, internalphysiciansand referring physicians.
Perform scheduling both intra- and inter-departmentally as requested by physician orders.
Receive orders and processes asindicatedby provider and schedules according to protocol.
Ensure accuracy of all data includingappropriate CPTcoding and case information (side, equipment, etc.).
Enter all updates,correctionsand changes to scheduled procedures/surgeries.
Maintain provider schedules for designated units and coordinate multiple physician schedules.
Serve asliaisonwithadmittingofficeregardinghospital reservations, update admissioninformationandcancelsreservations.
Act as a resource to all department personnel (surgeons, medical secretaries, nurses, residents, etc.) on daily activity.
Communicate with patients and their families to provide detailed instructions,directionsand resources available.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
High School Diploma/GED
Two years of related experience in an area that provides broad knowledge of medical terminology, including patient registration, patient billing, insurance processing or appointment/operating room scheduling OR three years of customer service concierge experience
Working knowledge of computerized appointment/OR scheduling systems, patient billing, insuranceprocessingor other related office functions to coordinate patient access
Proficiencyin Personal Computers (PC) and general knowledge of PC-based systems and software
Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel applications
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
In-depth knowledge of medical terminology and/or CPT/ICD coding
EPIC experience
Six months of medical scheduling experience
Physical Requirements:
Requires frequent standing, walking and sitting for extended periods of time.
Lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs.
Requires manual dexterity to grasp and handle records and to operate PC computer in the course of work and navigate throughout the hospital.
Normal or corrected vision.
Personal Protective Equipment:
Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
