Job Description

The Future of Life Institute (FLI) is hiring a Special Projects Manager for the Communications Team. The Communications Team produces a high volume of design and digital work — websites, campaign microsites, event identities, reports and assets — for a global audience, often on fast timelines tied to policy moments. We work with a retained external studio that delivers design and development from briefs, supported by a small in-house team. You will be the person who makes that model work - driving diverse projects from initial scoping all the way to completion.

The Special Projects Manager will report directly to the Director of Communications.

• Superintelligence Imagined Creative Contest - From 180+ submissions, we selected 6 winning artworks that best illustrate the risks of advanced artificial intelligence.
• The Asilomar AI Principles, one of the earliest and most influential sets of AI governance principles.
• The Pro-Human AI Declaration, a document with five guidelines on how AI development must be centred on humanity first, created during a meeting of bipartisan civil society groups spanning faith, labour, and think tanks.
• How would a nuclear war between Russia and the US affect you personally?- A scientifically accurate simulation showing the consequences of nuclear war, with over 6 millions views and a feature in Time Magazine.

FLI is a largely virtual organization, with a team of approximately 40 distributed internationally, mostly in Europe and the US. We have four offices: Campbell in California, Brussels in Belgium, London in the UK, and Washington DC. We meet in person as a full team twice a year.
