Coordinates and supervises multiple crews engaged in highly specialized transportation maintenance operations within a district to include, but not limited to seal coat operations, bridge repair, roadway reconstruction and/or hot mix overlay. Work requires extensive contact with private entities. Work requires responding to emergency notification on an as needed basis. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.
Essential Duties:
Coordinates with maintenance supervisors for specific incident clean-up and removal.
Coordinates, plans and schedules multiple crews, equipment and material needed for highly specialized maintenance jobs; as required responds to office/work location to assist with emergency situations/conditions.
Ensures that projects follow established guidelines.
Ensures that vehicles are properly equipped and maintained.
Oversees major maintenance projects involving roadways, bridges, right-of-way, buildings and grounds.
Performs some administrative duties such as maintaining records on materials, supplies and personnel.
Prepares daily or weekly work schedules.
Trains employees on the use of equipment and procedures.
Troubleshoots unusual problems and may perform some direct work.
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.
Experience
Licenses and Certifications
Must have a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
Competencies:
Extensive knowledge of
Methods, procedures, equipment, and materials used in intermodal transportation engineering construction and maintenance work.
Materials used in highway/bridge construction and maintenance.
The Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
Applicable industry safety standards, guidelines, and specification codes
Expert skill in
Supervising technical staff.
Proficient Skill in
Public relations for maintaining effective working relationships with individuals and groups, both internal and external.
Coordinating labor, materials, and equipment.
Evaluating products, equipment and material.
Using computers, applicable programs, applications, and systems.
Other attributes
Collaborates and cooperates with others and builds effective working relationships with internal and external members to accomplish organizational goals.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Subject to environmental conditions; protection from weather but not temperature changes.
Subject to outside environmental conditions; no effective weather protection.
Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.
Subject to extreme cold and heat; below 32 and/or above 100 degrees for more than one hour.
Subject to noise.
