Salary Grade: A21/ $54,278 - $87,046 (yearly)

Coordinates and schedules equipment, materials, and personnel for special transportation jobs and activities. Leads the work of
specialized maintenance and/or technical workers. Work requires responding to emergency notification on an as needed basis. Work
requires extensive contact with private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however all
unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.

Essential Duties:

  • Assists in preparing and giving presentations to the public regarding area of responsibility.
  • Assists in scheduling equipment, material and personnel necessary for a project
  • Ensures projects follow established safety guidelines.
  • Ensures vehicles are properly equipped and maintained.
  • Handles public complaints.
  • Trains employees on the use of equipment and procedures.
  • Coordinates assignments and oversees the work of special jobs and/or contracted crews.
  • Coordinates inventory and distribution of personal protective equipment, monthly safety related inspections, and
    completes safety incident related reports
  • Serves as a lead worker by scheduling daily work assignments; serving as a resource for complex questions and
    troubleshooting of problems; presenting operational updates to the supervisor; providing input on team members’ career
    conversations; and approving leave requests to ensure operational coverage.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

  • High School Grad or Equivalent in general education

Work Experience:

  • 5 YEARS in Roadway maintenance, construction, traffic systems management, or related work
    (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent)

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Mandatory: Safety Impact Certificate

  • Valid driver’s license at the time of application. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
  • Must have a Commercial Class "A" Driver's License with an "N" Endorsement or obtain a CDL "A” License within 120 calendar days after 6 months of continuous employment.

  • Currently Military or Veterans: US Military CDL Equivalent Conditions of Employment: US Military License candidates must successfully obtain Texas Class “A” CDL within 120 days of employment. https://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/military-skills-test-waiver

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Required to wear protective gear-respirator, hard hat, or other device

  • Reaching-extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction

  • Standing-prolonged periods of time

  • Lifting-raising objects from lower to higher position/horizontally to a different position

  • Talking-expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken words

  • This job has been identified as physically demanding and will require a pre-employment physical.

  • Must pass a drug test prior to employment for safety impact positions. This is a Safety Impact position and will be subject to random drug testing.

    • Please note that the Department of Transportation's Drug and Alcohol Testing Regulation – 49 CFR Part 40, at 40.151(e) – does not authorize “medical marijuana” under a state law to be a valid medical explanation for a positive drug test result for an employee in this position.

  • Must be able to report for duty within 60 minutes of notification on a 24-hour basis to respond to emergency situations.

  • Required to work weekends and holidays.

  • Required to work hours other than 8 to 5.

  • Required to work under exposure to inclement weather conditions.

  • Required to wear personal protective equipment provided by employer and comply with all safety requirements.
