Job Description

Work Arrangement : This role is classified as onsite. The successful candidate is expected to report to the GM Deputy Chief Compliance Officer on a full-time basis.

The Role -

The Special Investigator & Compliance Lead will lead and support investigations in South Korea involving alleged violations of law and/or GM policy, including fraud, intellectual property theft, embezzlement, conflicts of interest, collusion, kickbacks, bribery, FCPA-related matters, and records falsification. This role also provides compliance counsel on anti-bribery and anti-corruption, export compliance, conflicts of interest, and other key compliance matters. In addition, the position develops compliance communications and training to help strengthen GMs culture of integrity. As a member of the GM Legal Staff, this individual will partner with business leaders and cross-functional teams to deliver practical, timely, and high-integrity support while upholding GMs standards for safety, compliance, accountability, transparency, quality, cost discipline, business knowledge, and teamwork.

What You’ll Do-

  • Lead investigations into alleged misconduct, fraud, and other potential violations of law or GM policy.

  • Gather and document evidence, conduct interviews, and maintain investigation records in accordance with professional standards.

  • Communicate investigation status, findings, and recommendations clearly and promptly to relevant stakeholders.

  • Provide compliance counsel on anti-bribery and anti-corruption, export compliance, conflicts of interest, and related compliance matters in South Korea.

  • Develop and deliver compliance messaging, leadership communications, and employee training.

  • Conduct due diligence on proposed business partners and assess business activities for compliance risk.

  • Partner with Audit, Security, HR, and other stakeholders on investigations, monitoring, audit activities, and Legal department objectives.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications) -

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited university in Law, Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Criminal Justice, Risk Management, or a related field.

  • 510 years of relevant experience in Compliance, Internal Audit, Investigations, Risk Management, Forensic Accounting, Corporate Security, Legal, Regulatory Affairs, or related functions.

  • Experience conducting workplace investigations, compliance reviews, fraud investigations, forensic audits, or similar fact-finding engagements.

  • Strong understanding of corporate compliance principles, internal controls, risk management frameworks, and business ethics programs.

  • Knowledge of anti-bribery and anti-corruption regulations, including FCPA principles, relevant South Korean regulations, third-party risk management, and conflict-of-interest requirements.

  • Strong analytical, investigative, problem-solving, and report-writing skills. Ability to evaluate complex situations, identify root causes, and recommend practical solutions.

  • Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across all organizational levels.

  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with sound judgment and discretion.

  • Professional fluency in both Korean and English, including written and verbal communication.

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as business needs require.

  • Must be authorized to work & be located within South Korea.

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications-

  • Professional certification such as CPA, CIA, CFE, CCEP, CAMS, or equivalent.

  • Experience in multinational corporations, global compliance organizations, consulting firms, public accounting firms, law firms, or law enforcement agencies.

  • Experience supporting internal audit, regulatory investigations, ethics and compliance programs, or enterprise risk management initiatives.

  • Familiarity with forensic accounting techniques, compliance monitoring programs, data analytics, or audit methodologies.

  • Experience working in a cross-cultural and matrixed global environment.
