POSITION: Special Education Teacher (3 positions)
SALARY: DOE - Annual Contract
REPORTS TO: Special Education Director
LOCATION: Paschal Sherman Indian School, Omak , WA
Basic Functions: This is a Non-Exempt position. Incumbent works effectively with students who are academically, socially, and emotionally disabled, as well as parents, staff, and support personnel, to meet educational objectives and devise appropriate programs for each individual student under their care. The Special Education Teacher, under the supervision of the Special Education Director, is responsible for maintaining the learning environment in their classroom on a daily basis and requires flexibility and careful planning and coordination that is generally uncommon for most main-stream classrooms.
QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Training:- Typically requires an AA or BA in education
- Requires a current valid Washington State Teaching Certificate, with Special Education Endorsement.
- Requires obtaining a First Aid/CPR card within 30 days of hire.
- Requires passing Washington State, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Colville Tribal History Background Checks.
- Requires a valid Washington State Drivers License and to be eligible for Tribal Insurance.
- Requires Proof of Degree, Transcripts, and three letters of Reference provided along with application.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Requires knowledge in the instruction of the State Common Core Standards that is relevant to the content areas taught.
- Requires knowledge in standard-based instruction and grading.
- Requires the ability to maintain communications between staff, administration, students and parents.
- Requires the ability to maintain a good learning environment in the resource room
- Requires the ability to maintain a comprehensive in-class discipline program.
- Requires the ability to deal with a wider range of unacceptable behaviors, within the confines of your program, given the exceptional nature of the students.
- Requires ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors and subordinates.
- Requires ability to maintain STRICT confidentiality.
- Ability to keeps accurate records on student progress toward objectives/goals.
- Requires the ability to plan and supervise the activities of an instructional Teacher Aid.
- Requires the Ability to plan, direct, and teach an individualized instruction program.
- Must attends all prescribed training and workshops, this may involve travel.
Physical Abilities:
- The position incumbent must be able to function indoors in an office environment engaged in work of primarily a sedentary nature.
- Requires ambulatory ability to sit for extended periods of time, to utilize microcomputers and peripheral equipment, and to move about various campus locations.
- Requires the ability to use near vision to read printed materials.
- Requires auditory ability to carry on conversations in person and over the phone.
- Requires the ability to retrieve work materials from overhead, waist, and ground level files.
- Requires sustained repetitive motions and manual and finger dexterity to write, use a pointing device, keyboard at an acceptable, operate microcomputer, and operate other office equipment.
- Must be able to demonstrate sound mental and physical health.
Note: Pursuant to Tribal Policy, if this position is safety sensitive it is subject to pre-employment drug testing. In addition, this position is subject to reasonable suspicion and post-accident drug testing.

If required of this position, you must possess and maintain a valid Washington State driver’s license and be eligible for the Tribes’ Vehicle Insurance. In addition, this position may be subject to pre-employment background clearances. If applicable, these clearances must be maintained throughout employment.
