and Responsibilities

This is a full-time, on-site role as a Special Education Teacher serving a school located in Lake Wylie, South Carolina.

The Special Education Teacher (SPED) will be responsible for providing teaching and case management services to students, conducting assessments, developing IEP plans, evaluating progress, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams (therapists, educators, parents). The role requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as a passion for working with students with special needs.

  • Full-time, 37.5 hours/week
  • 2026-2027 School year, August - May/June.

  • Elementary Resource & Inclusion SPED Teacher (K–5)
  • School-based Resource/Inclusion position (not a self-contained classroom)

Responsibilities

  • Provide specialized resource instruction and inclusion support to students with disabilities in accordance with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Develop, implement, and monitor IEP goals while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to support student success.
  • Partner with general education teachers to adapt curriculum, modify instructional strategies, and implement appropriate accommodations and supports.
  • Conduct progress monitoring, collect student data, and adjust instructional interventions to meet individual learning needs.
  • Manage special education case responsibilities, including maintaining compliance documentation, participating in eligibility evaluations, and attending IEP meetings.
  • Foster positive relationships with students, families, and school staff to create a collaborative and inclusive learning environment.
  • Support students in developing academic, organizational, and self-advocacy skills that promote success in both resource and general education settings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Special Education or a related field
  • Valid South Carolina Special Education teaching certification or eligibility to obtain South Carolina certification before the start date
  • Experience supporting students with disabilities in a school setting preferred
  • Strong organizational, communication, and classroom management skills
  • Proficiency with educational technology and IEP documentation systems
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with general education teachers, related service providers, administrators, and families
  • Successful completion of required background screening and fingerprint clearance
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise professionalism, tact, and discretion in all communications

Physical Requirements

Working and playing with students requires that employees must be able to perform the necessary physical movement functions, as needed, such as lifting, sitting, walking, standing, crawling, and engaging with students in all physical locations and activities, while adhering to the duties outlined by the district.
