- Provides special instruction to students in compliance with school-system and program requirements, state and federal regulations. Implements an instructional, therapeutic and skill development program for differentiated learning levels.

- Conducts formal and informal assessments of all students.

- Plans and uses appropriate instructional strategies to include the integration of activities, materials and equipment that align with the accommodations as set in the student's Individual Education Plan.

- Plans and supervises assignments for staff members assisting with students.

- Establishes and maintains appropriate, open lines of communication with all parties, to include but not limited to students, therapists, school district personnel, parents and co-workers. Attends all required meetings and trainings offered by program.

- Completes required documentation within timelines, including recording of grades and attendance.

- Abides by and demonstrates the company's Mission, Vision, and Values, through both behavior and job performance on a day-to-day basis.

- Modifies lessons to meet different student’s needs in all the courses.

- Monitors progress of students with disabilities and assesses the need for changes in the accommodations.

- Requests IEPs and other education records for students who need accommodations. • Attend RAC meetings and review folders when needed.

- Maintains a high degree of discipline in the classroom and reinforces employability skills.

- Adequately prepares for classroom instruction.

- Provide individual classroom instruction as needed.

- Documents student progress for inclusion on the Disability CIS Notes.

- Keeps updated file on students’ progress.

- Documented students IEP and other documents are placed in students' file.

- Monitors and documents student progress throughout the students stay on center

- Creates individualized plans including strategies to meet student’s needs and TABE requirements.

- Advise staff about required student accommodation plans.

- Offers yearly training regarding Disability Program.

- Stablishes or coordinate links with pertinent agencies that offer services for individuals with disabilities.

- Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Minimum university degree in special education and current state certification as a special education teacher (teaching license) in the state where the service is provided.
  • Minimum of one year of experience working with children with disabilities between the ages of 16 and 24.
  • Experience working with children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is preferred.
  • Understanding and knowledge of the provided curriculum, Unique Learning.
  • Ability to use educational technology and integrate it into classes.
  • High cultural awareness and sensitivity to the diversity of the student population.
  • Ability to co-teach and work in a dynamic and constantly changing environment.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Puerto Law 300 Certification.
  • Puerto Rico driver's license and good driving record.
  • Ability to locate resources to overcome potential barriers to successful program completion.
  • Self-motivation, flexibility, and ability to work in a team.
  • Bilingualism is a plus.
