Temporary Position during the 2026-27 School Year

Assists a certificated teacher in providing instruction to individual or small groups of students with special education needs; monitors and reports student progress regarding behavior and performance.

Salary Schedule Range Range 5: $17.95 - $20.04 / Hourly Rate

Hours 6 Hours/Day - 181 Days/School Year*

Schedule: 7:45 a.m. - 2:15 p.m.

Minimum Qualifications & Abilities:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• AA Degree or 48 Semester Units or meet a rigorous standard of quality and demonstrate, through an assessment, the knowledge and ability to assist in instruction (CODESP Exam).
• Knowledge of basic concepts of child growth, development and behavior.
• Ability to reinforce instruction to individual or small groups of students as directed by the teacher.
• Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with teachers, students, parents and administrators.
• Ability to demonstrate an understanding, patient, and receptive attitude toward disabled children; appropriately manage student behavior and guide handicapped children toward more acceptable social behaviors.
• Training in Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) may be provided.
• Training in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) preferred.

Essential Functions:

• Implement lesson plans developed by the teacher; assist with group or one-on-one instruction in a variety of subjects or activities; report progress regarding student performance.
• Works with students in special education and/or general education settings.
• May check accuracy of students' work and present additional assignments within parameters established by the teacher.
• Carries out the instructions of a certificated employee to implement special physical handling.
• Operates specialized equipment (magnifiers, FM systems, etc.) following training by a certificated employee.
• Monitors children and provides for their physical and hygienic needs (dressing, feeding, toileting, changing diapers, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a clean, healthy, and safe environment.
• May assist teachers on field trips by helping students meet physical needs (dressing, feeding, and toileting).
• Assists the teacher in the monitoring, motivating, and training of educationally handicapped students.
• May obtain food from kitchen, serve food and feed students or help them feed themselves.
• Observes and controls behavior of students according to approved procedures; reports progress regarding student performance and behavior.
• Operates a variety of classroom and office equipment, including a computer, copier, paper cutter, and other standard office equipment.
• Assists in the preparation of instructional materials.
• May make minor adjustments on special equipment, such as wheelchairs, crutches, and braces.
• Supports the teacher with data collection for the purpose of documenting student progress.
• Assists students in using alternative communication modes.
• Directs children in safe play activities and assists them with appropriate social behaviors in the classroom and on the playground.
• Assists in managing the behavior of children through the use of a variety of reinforcement techniques.
• Assures the health and safety of students by following established practices and procedures; maintains learning environment in a safe, orderly, and clean manner.
• May participate in parent conferences and perform interpretation functions as requested.
• Performs other duties as assigned by Superintendent or designee.
